Hailing from Trissino, in the Veneto region in Italy, an area renowned for its goldsmiths, comes
Marco Bicego, affectionately and accurately deemed Italy’s Golden Boy. He was born to Giuseppe Bicego, who, in 1958, founded a small workshop that specialized in gold chains. Although never formally trained as a goldsmith, Marco grew up absorbing the essence of craftsmanship as he observed his father. In fact, it was because he grew up surrounded by goldsmiths that Marco did not want to be a jewelry designer. The idea of doing something he’d known all his life didn’t feel like a challenge to him. It wasn’t until 2000 that he felt ready to take things in a new direction. That year, he launched his titular brand, relying on his generational expertise and vision for contemporary elegance. For over two decades, Marco has spearheaded the brand’s creative direction, ensuring uncompromised quality and bold design innovation.

Known for artisanal excellence and uniquely modern pieces, Marco has redefined Italian jewelry by applying global inspiration to his pieces. What makes his collections so distinctive is that each piece of jewelry is still made by hand in Vincenza. There, the goldsmiths employ a special hand-etching technique, working with a tool called a bulino, to engrave hundreds of tiny lines on the gold’s surface. Just as it was done in the olden days, now it has become Marco’s signature design; under his methodology, the gold becomes like silk, spun into thread-like coils that mimic the natural curve of a body and seem to drape with the ease of fabric when worn.
Marco’s philosophy is that the difference is in the details. Because his pieces are handmade, no two are alike, rendering them almost impossible to duplicate. He is inspired by the people who wear his jewelry and is very intent on making each piece as one-of-a-kind as the person wearing it. It is Marco’s desire that those who wear his jewelry see the piece as an essential part of who they are. Marco also believes that jewelry is connected to the human experience through color and that it is emotionally driven. Also impelled by nature and travel, one doesn’t have to look very far to see these two themes interwoven throughout Marco’s collections. Think “tribal jewels undergo a glamorous makeover” in the Masai collection, while the pieces in the Lunaria collection imitate the membrane lightness of the dried seeds of the lunaria flower rustling in the wind.
Today, Marco Bicego boasts two flagship stores in Venice and Verona, and multiple boutiques spanning the globe from Paris to New York to Athens. His pieces are also available in high-end department stores in over fifty countries. With Marco’s fusion of old-time technique and clean and simple lines, it isn’t any wonder the brand has achieved international acclaim.
Most recently, Marco Bicego’s jewels were featured at the Met Gala, worn by actress Rachel Zegler, bringing her vision to life by pairing Africa Alta earrings and rings from the Marrakech and Jaipur collections. Just a few weeks before, Italian actress Sara Serraiocco donned a pair of earrings from the Lunaria collection, lending a whimsical play of light and texture to her look.
Unfussy and timeless, Marco Bicego jewelry adds a layer of sophistication to any ensemble – whether it is an evening gown or casual t-shirt – it’s there, in the details.
