Blowing Rock
Blowing Rock

Picturesque North Carolina is packed with romantic spots for popping the question. So many that it may be hard to choose! That’s why we’re excited to share with you five of our favorite places for a proposal, in no particular order:

Blowing Rock

This is North Carolina’s oldest travel attraction and gives you amazing views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Blowing Rock is a one-of-a-kind rock formation that extends 1500 feet over the Johns River Gorge located in the village of Blowing Rock in western NC. You can take a short scenic walk to the rock with awe-inspiring views of Grandfather Mountain, Table Rock, Hawksbill, and Garden Waterfall. You’ll have ample opportunities to pop the question with a spectacular backdrop.

The Biltmore

Another location that has several ideal spots for a proposal is The Biltmore. Here are a few:

The Lagoon along the main road offers a phenomenal view of the castle. It can be busy at times, but you can usually find a great spot for a picnic proposal.

Deerpark Trail is a more secluded spot for you and your partner. It’s easy to access from the house and gives you awesome views. For an extra bit of romance, you can book a horse-drawn carriage to take you through the forests.

The gardens on the estate will be a great place for a proposal along with a share-worthy photo session. The Rose Garden is where you’ll typically find the most blooms, while the Italian Garden has more exotic blooms located near the Pergola. Consider an early morning proposal, or after 5 p.m. to avoid the crowds.

The 55-foot Christmas tree will make for a perfect holiday proposal. It’s not the only decorated tree…in fact, you’ll find over 100 Christmas trees sporting 25-thousand ornaments and 1.5 miles of garland. Proposing during one of the candlelight tours will be a gift the both of you will cherish for a lifetime.

Point Lookout Greenway Trail

The Point Lookout Greenway Trail is surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest and is made up of a 3.5-mile paved trail. You’ll have wildflowers in the spring, and a painter’s pallet full of colors in the fall. You can explore railroad tunnels and view the Young’s Ridge and Royal Gorge with benches to sit and enjoy the natural beauty. Journey to Point Lookout Vineyards afterward and celebrate your proposal over delicious wine and 30-mile panoramic views.

Blue Ridge Parkway

There are over 250 scenic lookouts along the 469-mile Blue Ridge Parkway. Any of the lookouts will give you mesmerizing views of the Great Smoky Mountains through North Carolina and Virginia. One of our favorite spots along the parkway is near Asheville. Choose September for the fall leaves, while May is the time to see the blanket of wildflowers in bloom across the hillside.

Cape Lookout National Seashore

Along the 56-mile seashore are two historic villages, wild horses, and the Cape Lookout Lighthouse. The views along the beach are always remarkable, but for maximum beauty (and impact) be there as the sun sets. You’ll be surrounded by the Southern Outer Banks, maybe a few wild ponies, and your proposal will be the most romantic ever. Keep in mind that you can only get to the Cape Lookout via passenger ferry, vehicular ferry, or personal watercraft.
