Orrefors in Volvo?

Posted by Schiffman's at 12:00:00 PM in Orrefors (33)

You may know Orrefors as the elegant, exciting Swedish fine glass signature that makes fine dinnerware, stemware, and desk accessories. But there’s one Orrefors creation that you won’t see in any of the brand’s catalogs: gearshift. That’s right, Volvo commissioned Orrefors to provide the transparent gearshift in the car company’s latest model: the 2016 Volvo XC90 T6. An all-wheel drive that accommodates up to seven passengers powered by 2.0-liter, 313 hp supercharged and turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, the car is built with safety and class in mind. It has an 85-cu. ft. of cargo space and a crash-hardened frame. The Orrefors gearshift is also sturdy and adds to the elegance of the interior, which includes navi, phone, and Bowers & Wilkins surround sound. The car is jokingly said to be capable of  withstanding Thor’s hammer.

Tiny house made to look big

Posted by Schiffman's at 2:35:35 AM in Orrefors (33)

Tiny houses are the current DIY rage today among American middle-income households. The house can be a home office, a Zen corner for reading, or a study room, a home a step away from home. No larger than a standard room, a tiny house can be made to look spacious with a few tricks. For instance, you can hang long curtains to “create” more ceiling room. Painting the interior with bright colors also gives a sense of open spaces. Also remove any clutter or eyesore like laundry boxes or random things on the floor; they eat up space. Likewise, put some corner lighting. Corner lights make the room to appear like it's spreading out, plus it creates a relaxing mood. Finally, put some elegant highlights in your tiny house by accenting it with luxury items like an Orrefors on a coffee table.

Art, Glass, and Design

Posted by Schiffman's at 10:00:10 AM in Orrefors (33)

There are pieces that attempt to blur the lines between design and art. But there are also pieces that do away with them completely and these are the pieces that Orrefors create. Since its inception in 1898, it has made its way from a small company that created functional glassworks to a specialized company that create artful functional glass pieces that are well sought-out by the world. Orrefors had been collaborating with artists since the hiring of Simon Gate in 1916 and of Edward Hald in the next year – the two influential artists that put more of Orrefors on the map. Today, Orrefors also produces pieces with glass artists such as Anna Ehrner and Berti Vallien, producing pieces worthy of both galleries and homes.

Make small spaces big

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:00:00 AM in Orrefors (33)

Even if you’re living in a small space you can create a stunning interior to make it appear like a sprawling 4-door suburban house. Hang long curtains to create an illusion of high ceiling. Paint your furniture with bright colors because light colors exude a more open feeling. Conceal eyesores like a pile of laundry or cardboard boxes with dividers or put them inside cabinets to save space. Combine kitchen and dining areas to free up more space for the living room. Hang large mirrors to literally reflect more space. Illuminate dark corners to make the room appear more spread out. Finally, provide simple yet elegant accents like Orrefors. Place a single Orrefors on corner wooden coffee table and watch that area glows like a manor’s spot.

Glass from Sweden

Posted by Schiffman's at 7:25:00 AM in Orrefors (33)

Glass, more than any other material awakens our imagination. It can change appearance and colour, be strong and fragile, sharp and soft at the same time. Glass can even change a small locality’s future –just like what it did with Orrefors. Orrefors is a locality situated in Nybro Municipality, Kalmar County, Sweden. Now, the locality is known to be the founding place of the internationally acclaimed Orrefors, maker of utility glass and art glass made of crystal since 1898. The place and the glass are so intertwined that if you are in Sweden and you do have the possibility to go to Orrefors, there’s no way you can complete your visit without taking a tour in the glass fabric.

But if in some particular circumstance, you can’t, then worry not, you can still have the timeles Scandinavian elegance by visiting Schiffman’s at Friendly Center – where Orrefor’s new collections of utility glassware produced in large-volume series and limited-edition art glass, are reqularly presented.

Fit for Royalty

Posted by Schiffman's at 7:00:00 AM in Orrefors (33)

Since being founded in 1898, Orrefors Glassworks has proven to have been one of Sweden’s gifts to the world. It was in the year 1923 that the Gate and Hald experiment with the then new innovative graal (grail) glass technique received major success in the Gothenburg Exhibition. In the Paris Exhibition in 1925, Orrefors and its artists were awarded the Grand Prix. These major wins proved to have stayed with the Orrefors’ company DNA as excellence never left.

The crystal products from Orrefors are not only beautiful and sophisticated but also lead free. These products have remained to be handmade – this only shows that Orrefors stick to its history of excellence and high standards. Orrefors has been a Purveyor to the Court of Sweden and has had a rich history of supplying gifts and orders to the Swedish Royal family.

To get your hands of glassware worthy of royalty, you can come and visit Schiffman’s at Friendly Center. Schiffman’s is an authorized dealer for Orrefors glassworks.

Utility and Art Glass in One

Posted by Schiffman's at 11:00:00 AM in Orrefors (33)

Combining a utilitarian use and artistic rendition comes naturally to Orrefors, the renowned glassmaker of an impressive line of glasses and art glass. The art, in fact, is the product of Orrefors’ long history of inspired manufacturing that takes its style from the traditional handblown techniques used by Swedish glassmakers centuries ago. Likewise, Orrefors, while a brilliant traditional piece, uses state-of-the-art manufacturing and a team of renowned glass artists to ensure an unblemished glass that is both a masterpiece and a functional item. Most notable, its Karl Lagerfeld reflects the brand’s deep passion for glassmaking. Elegance, simplicity and a heritage of quality and passion, these are the hallmarks of an Orrefors glass. Impress your guests with a line of Orrefors glass.

Scandinavian Elegance

Posted by Schiffman's at 9:00:45 AM in Orrefors (33)

A glass company of Scandinavian tradition started creating glassware pieces with genuine and innovative craftsmanship. Advocating the tradition of discipline and creative talent common among Scandinavian origins, it has established itself as one of the iconic glassware innovators. The glassware creations produced iconic designs in utility glasswares and art glass as accessories for home decor. The exquisite taste in borderline alternative art in glass art are most sought after for their eccentricity and modernity impressions. The company managed to create a niche in the market among the prestigious clients in Europe and America. It has revealed itself that they are capable of adapting to the changes of modern art and graphics. Indeed, Orrefors' Swedish artists are much capable to adjust the ante of excellence in the progress and development of non-contemporary art and designs in glassware.

Simple way to improve home interior

Posted by Schiffman's at 4:00:00 AM in Orrefors (33)

One simple way to improve your home interior is to add accents. No need to move things around or replace old items; just hang something like Orrefors hanging ornaments and watch how they can add interest in a bland space. Handcrafted and mouthblown, these Orrefors crystal stars create a delicate balance to a rugged section. They can also reflect some interesting light produced by their unblemished translucent inner glow. Furthermore, they have a story to tell to add spice to your décor. The stars are collectively themed as the Seven Sisters, the seven nymphs chased by Orion in Greek mythology. Each crystal star is shaped to represent each sister and their personality. You can hang them on the wall or furniture and they can easily be a magnet for conversations with guests.

A Toast to Glass

Posted by Schiffman's at 6:00:00 AM in Orrefors (33)

Cheers to great craftsmanship that has made glass utilities a work of art. The Orrefors champagne glass line is a fusion of art and functionality that you can display in the dining cabinet as you can use them any time a celebration calls for a toast. The champagne whole line is a journey across Orrefors mastery of the glass. The Amor Vincit Omnia is welcoming with its wide, open mouth that slides down gently to a base. It complements a party that is more open and casual and with some inhibitions thrown out of the window. Meantime, the Difference Sparkling is more reserved, the slender body narrows down to the mouth, the kind you’ll use for weddings and more formal gatherings. The Mitt & Ditt champagne glass leans more to the exceptionally classy, which showcases a goldplated rim and base.  In between these three champagne glass styles, you’ll find subtle variations that carry the Orrefors glass craftsmanship.

Here’s to long, classy life

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:00:00 AM in Orrefors (33)

Cheers to Orrefors for creating a fine line of ale glasses. Gulping down the brewed malt has never been classier, and elegant to boot, than with a whole range of Orrefors beer drinking glasses. It is glass art put together with the pleasure of beer; what can go wrong?  Whether it is the tall Difference Ale glass or the slender Difference Pils, the art and craftsmanship of Orrefors is evident. The golden yellow of freshly brewed beer or  the deep dark brown of the ale is given an extra glow and allure. Similarly, the You/We Beer glass is pure masculine without losing the Orrefors graceful touch. For the more sophisticated drinker, try the Nobel beer in 27 cl or 37 cl; both are stunning with in their golden stems. Here’s to long life and a touch of class!

Little pieces of art

Posted by Schiffman's at 9:00:00 AM in Orrefors (33)

Hand blown glass is alluring, almost hypnotizing. Especially if it is Orrefors, the art glass signature made into utility cocktail items. Like wine stoppers. This seemingly insignificant part of your cocktail set is transformed into a minimalist art piece like it is designed for the gallery exhibit. It does cap the wine bottle, but looking at the elegant and gleaming facets Orrefors wine stoppers is almost like appreciating a diamond. The design cuts across a range of styles, from the multi-faceted to the singular smooth surface. The Orrefors wine stoppers are even made more elegant as light touches and passes through them. It is an explosion of lights gleaming inside and radiating a glow outside. As with other Orrefors collectible glass items the wine stoppers use the glassmaking technology and tradition of Sweden, considered the origin of hand blown glass art.

The Touch of light

Posted by Schiffman's at 9:00:00 AM in Orrefors (33)

If you are looking for cheap, mass-produced glass at its most utilitarian feature, you made a wrong turn somewhere. Orrefors is art fused into glass. Or is it the other way around? The carefully molded and carved finish is clearly Scandinavian and reminiscent of the high form of traditional glass art making. Orrefors’ craftsmanship is traced back centuries ago to the traditional glassblowing skills of artisans in Smaland, Sweden. Whether it is in cobalt black finish, translucent deep blue or gleaming water-like look, an Orrefors glass is elegance at the core. Use it as a centerpiece in your living room, an accent to adorn an empty corner, or a display to enliven a side table in your room beside a lamp. Watch Orrefors come to life as light touches its slender, gleaming surface.

Glassy passion

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:00:00 AM in Orrefors (33)

The company says they make utility glass and glass art. Shown their complete drinking line, I couldn’t figure out which is utility and which is art. I have a crush on glass, and I wanted my dinner room to exude my intimate relationship with this delicate yet strong material. I’d come to Orrefors to complete my drinking set. I’d heard about their Nobel snaps yellow showcasing a detailed sitting kingly African figurine as the glass stem. That’s clearly art, I thought. Choosing from Orrefors “utility” drinking items, such as flutes for champagne, tumblers for liquor and coupe for lady’s cocktails, and especially seeing and feeling the smooth lines of the Orrefors black wine glass, I was struck how utilitarian becomes art in the hands of an Orrefors glassmaker. I started collecting the cylindrical glasses and they’d gone straight to my display cabinet. Next in line, the curvaceous grappa glass and her cousins.

Glass celebrates Nobel Prize

Posted by Schiffman's at 2:00:00 AM in Orrefors (33)

Sweden is known for its centuries-old glassmaking tradition; and when you say Swedish glass, Orrefors is one of the renowned brands to come to mind. Starting in a small Swedish town in 1898, Orrefors has perfected the art and functional beauty of glassmaking with its line of collectibles. Its crystal glasses for wine, champagne, beer, and other spirits boasts of artistic themes from the classic thirties to the contemporary twenty-first century. The Nobel Snaps Yellow perhaps best reflects an Orrefors glassware. Designed by Gunnar Cyren for the 90th anniversary of the Nobel Prize, the hand painted crystal glass leaves the owner and his guests to wildly interpret its handle’s rendition of a black man sitting with a king’s crown. Whatever the translation is, the message is clear: this limited piece is an item worth collecting.

Now You See It, Now You Don’t

Posted by Schiffman's at 10:25:35 AM in Orrefors (33)

OrreforsSee Me Sculpture is the embodiment of elegance and minimalistic art with a clever trick up its sleeve. Like many other glass creations by Orrefors’ minimalist sculptor, Martti Rytkonen, the See Me sculpture tells us two things: first a narrative, and second an interesting characteristic of glass. The contemporary piece, standing 270 mm high, plays with the complexity of human perception. From front view, the central object is flanked by sleek glass borders, and the face furtively looks straight back at you. When you move the object around and approach it from the sides, the colors and shapes come into play, forming two fading lines in place of the face contours. That is the magic of glass, the form of the object depending on your point of view. That is also the charm of life; you either see something beautiful or you don’t. It all depends on how you look at things.

Check out this amazing piece of art from Rytkonen and Orrefors, available at selected authorized dealers such as Schiffman’s in Winston-Salem.
