Porcelain perfection

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:00:15 AM in Lladro (32)

Behind every Lladro piece is exceptional artistry and an extensive labor process. Since its birth in 1953, this Spanish company had been creating fascinating art porcelain figurines renowned the world over. While it's true that every artwork begins with inspiration, Lladro sculptors embark on a meticulous procedure involving study and hard work to successfully bring forth an artistic vision into reality. Commencing from the very first artist's sketch, the sculptor produces the prototype in clay, which is then subjected to the thorough study by Lladro's Creative department. The clay's plaster version is then made to function as the initial mold to arrive at the final mold. Intricate figurines may require hundreds of individual molds just to create each individual piece! And once all the parts of a particular design are made and assembled, the decoration stage begins, which involves another set of complicated activities like polishing, painting, etc. It is then cooked in a kiln and subjected to strict quality control. Well, that's perfection through talent and hard work.

Opulent oriental art

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:37:16 AM in Lladro (32)

If you have a thing for grandeur and opulence for your interior set, you can't go wrong with Lladro's Chinese and Indian mystic figurines. Both ancient civilizations are rich in intricate styles, whether in the arts, culture, and beliefs. The same oriental depth is captured by Lladro in its porcelain figurine collections. For one, it captures the deep red and blue hues of the Hindi Goddess Lakshmi. Her golden headdress flows seamlessly with the gown and her hands are symbolic of peace and sharing. On the other hand, the Chinese dragon figurines are featured in detailed scales and eyes that evoke an intense look. They pose aggressively, as if threatening the admirer of the figurine with a fiery breath. Equally impressive is the Guardian Lioness, its body armor and strong stance exude royalty.

Fantasy by Lladro

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:58:30 AM in Lladro (32)

There's an Alice in Wonderland-kind of experience seeing this latest Lladro collection. Fantasy by Jaime Hayon features innocence, playfulness, magical, and even a dash of naughty and nice shaped and crafted in the renowned fine porcelain the Lladro way. The Spanish designer said his works is a cross-over of his own fantastical imaginings and of Lladro's familiar themes. There is a childish dream present in The Rocking Chicken Ride, while the Masquerade Bud Vase evokes a mysterious, a bit dark, thoughts of a circus clown. The Lover III is charming in its splendid poise and dressed in unimaginable combination of textured colors. Meanwhile, the Medium Conversation Vase has the gay and pompous spirit of a Venetian party, truly a piece de resistance in your living room.

The City of Porcelain

Posted by Schiffman's at 11:00:00 AM in Lladro (32)

Lladro is homemade porcelain. But don’t let that come across the wrong way – the small and ordinary way. Lladro is in no way small and the ordinary. One look at the company’s collection and especially the porcelain art line, you’ll see Lladro for all its handmade grandness and glory. The City of Porcelain

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:00:00 AM in Lladro (32)

Plaza Del Mercado, Torres De Serranos, and Museo De Bellas Artes San Pio V. These are but some of the attractions that come to mind when you think of Valencia in Spain. But did you know beyond these high art attractions, there’s another point-of-interest that highlights fine art in Valencia? It’s the City of Porcelain, the headquarters of porcelain-maker Lladró, where one of the world’s finest porcelain signatures is created. Opened in 1969 in Tavernes Blanques, Valencia, the Lladró porcelain factory is a hub of artistic creation, featuring bright studios and workshops and spacious gardens. You can also check its museum showcasing its line of impressive high porcelain sculptures and be among the 15,000 annual visitors that come to check the place (advance booking needed).

The beat of high porcelain

Posted by Schiffman's at 7:00:00 AM in Lladro (32)

Lladro continues to celebrate the art of high porcelain with its new series. The high porcelain maker has kept its signature detailed representations, but with a new thematic line. The Pure Flamenco exhibits Lladro’s graceful craftsmanship with the dancer’s bata de cola flying in the wind as she turns. The woman’s face is intense, her eyes fixated on the beat of the flamenco music. You can feel her pounding feet, never mind that they are hidden underneath the bata. In fact, there are none, but the sculpture shows a remarkable display of leg muscle tones that seem to stretch all the way to a pair of invisible dancing feet. Such is the power of Lladro’s craftsmanship; it puts life into still art. The Pure Flamenco work adds glamour and elegance to any dining set or living room.

Mama

Posted by Schiffman's at 5:00:00 AM in Lladro (32)

Although moms are different, these days, as they are more likely to have gone to college, more likely to work full-time, less likely to have more than two children, and less likely to be married than previous generation, still they have that one thing in common with the past generations of mothers – the maternal instinct. Whatever the agonizing or doubts, most mothers tenaciously persist in mothering. From the moment a woman learns she is pregnant, a lifelong bond begins to grow, linking mother and child forever in the strongest possible manifestation of love. The nesting instinct abounds and moms go out and buy all of the books, decorate the nursery, and pick out baby names. It is with this thought that Lladro, beyond doubt one of the most universally recognized Spanish brands, created its newest addition to its 2014 collections, “A New Life” – a 30” x 18 cm, 11 ¾” x 7” sculpture. With this sculpture, the deepest emotions take on all their meaning in the hands of Lladro artists. Hands that give birth to pieces that will share with us the most important moments in the life of a mother.

Intricate Porcelain Pieces by Lladró

Posted by Schiffman's at 6:00:00 AM in Lladro (32)

Porcelain by Lladró have always dazzled connoisseurs and beautify homes. In Lladró, pieces have to undergo an intricate creation process, involving a team of expert craftsmen, to be put on sale. Each creation begins with the inspiration and the first sketch. When the creation is approved by the Creativity Committee, it is then reproduced in plaster to form molds. Medium-sized Lladró  figurines usually need around 15-20 molds and complex pieces require 200 up to 300 molds. The intricacy doesn’t end in the fabrication of the molds and physical figurines. After reconstruction, the pieces are carved with delicate motifs - the smallest details are added like the facial expressions. Once these pieces are carefully painted and finished, they are put to the test of fire – in a kiln at over 1300º C. But the test doesn’t end there; if pieces do not pass strict quality control guidelines they will bendestroyed. Again, only those that are perfect make it – pieces worthy of their Lladró name.

The magic of lithophanes

Posted by Schiffman's at 9:00:00 AM in Lladro (32)

The lithophanes collection of Lladro literally reflects the brand’s renowned hand crafted porcelain art. Unlit, they are white as snow and they showcase the detailed designs on the surface. The Lithophane Shade Toucans is notably intricate, a graceful storm of swirling patterns that evoke flying leaves and flowers in motion with the wind. For a timely décor, the Lithophane Shade Nutcracker is pure white in holiday spirit, locking in the nostalgic story of this timeless holiday tale. But the Lladro Lithophanes come to life at night when the lights are out and the shades are lit. The mood light lends a cozy and warm air to the room. The inner light showcases the depth of the designs, creating a three-dimensional illusion to the artwork. It’s mesmerizing and can hold your attention for the longest time.

High art of porcelain

Posted by Schiffman's at 6:00:00 AM in Lladro (32)

There are porcelain figurines and there are the hand-painted porcelain Lladro figurines. The elegance and finely sculptured beauty of Lladro figurines are hallmark of high-end craftsmanship. None, perhaps, define Lladro’s porcelain excellence than its High Porcelain collection. Truly detailed down to the subtle eyelid expression of the Winged Beauty figurine or the headdress of the Hindi goddess Lakshmi, this exquisite collection showcases the apex of porcelain art. Jewelries are etched in porcelain, yet they stand out as separate pieces of precious metals. And you can’t argue with the serene, innocent chat between the Ladies from Aranjuez Vase, the basket on the foreground revealed with detailed flowers. Arion on a Seahorse and Bacchante on a Panther are also masterpieces that evoke the sensuality of a mythology. The Lladro High Porcelain lives up to its name down to the detail bit.

Joys of life

Posted by Schiffman's at 12:00:00 PM in Lladro (32)

The soft pastel colors of a Lladro figurine define much of the hand-crafted porcelain maker, but its plain white sculptures are equally impressive. The absence of color or a limited amount of it in its Matte Sculptures line, in fact, highlights the detailed craftsmanship of the Lladro artist. A mother and child are caught in a casual poise, nothing dramatic save for the artistry of creating an art out of a mundane reality. Another child poses in front of the camera; yes, it makes you feel that the figurine is alive and actually looking at a photographer. The Essence of Life, which depicts a couple and their newborn child, is dramatic, highlighting the Lladro artist’s sensitivity to life. The Matte Sculptures line celebrates the family, the child, the couple and everything about the little joys of life captured in a Lladro hand-crafted fine porcelain.

Oriental art in porcelain

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:00:00 AM in Lladro (32)

Arguably, Lladro is most intricate and beautiful in its exquisite line of Chinese and Indian mystic figurines. The deep reds and blues of the Hindi Goddess Lakshmi highlight the intricate sculpting of the goddess, from her golden headdress to her gown that flows smoothly on contours. Her four hands are depicted in various actions, with one hand in an open palm and the other as if summoning peace to the onlooker. Similarly, the Chinese dragons are impressive with their detailed scales and their flaming eyes. Far from standing passively, the dragons stand in an attack poise, a threatening mouth ready to give a fiery breadth.  The Great Dragon is available in blue and golden or blue enamels. The Guardian Lioness is equally stunning in its body armour, strong stance and fiery tail. Lladro offers more Asian mystic-inspired fine porcelain figurines as a showcase of its mastery of craftsmanship.

A Gift of Celebration

Posted by Schiffman's at 9:20:00 AM in Lladro (32)

Marriages are made more memorable and elegant with a Lladro high-porcelain wedding figurine. It is a gift that showcases the giver’s sincere celebration for the couple, not the least a wish that matches a Lladro porcelain designed and made to last for a lifetime.  The wedding figurines capture the tender passion of the newlyweds in high-definition work of sculpture. The gown flows naturally along the bride’s contour as the groom is naturally shown pressing his body against his woman of dreams. The couple’s lips are teasingly portrayed in the act of gravitating towards each other. The poise—the groom carrying his lady or standing in front of each other—is perfectly set with a center of gravity that you can feel.  Their bodies are relaxed that makes you forget you are looking at hard porcelain. The gleaming figurines are unmistakably romantic, playful and elegant.

Cupid figurine

Posted by Schiffman's at 7:00:00 AM in Lladro (32)

The signature is known for finely hand crafted porcelain figurines. And when you see the serenity and mystic in its Legend collection, you will agree, indeed, Lladro is all about the best in porcelain art. The Cupid figurines are nothing short of a collectible, the wing boy’s innocent postures are captured in a charmed innocence. Whether he’s reading a book, playing with a dove or quietly embracing a heart figurine, the Lladro cupid figurine tugs at your inner child. He is also crafted in his much younger years, a baby in sleep in his cloud bed. The golden wings add the perfect accent to the graceful porcelain line so delicate that it makes the Cupid almost real. His hair appears to move with his posture, creating a magical aura around the figurine and the place in your living room.

Life in Africa

Posted by Schiffman's at 12:15:10 PM in Lladro (32)

The African kid’s eyes are locked into something. You just cannot figure out yet, but it can be something that caught her attention in her remote village. She is dressed in a beautifully woven cloth that is etched with simple strokes that may signify her status or position in the tribe. She is relaxed, you know, the way she delicately handles a walking stick made from good wood. It’s an everyday picture in a remote African village, and, amazingly, all it takes for you to see the whole scene is a single Lladro porcelain figurine depicting the African child. Such is the intense and detailed work of the Lladro Pulse of Africa collection that each figurine creates a story, if only in your imagination. The collection, made from handcrafted high porcelain, has more than ten items reflecting the African village life.
