Herend: The Wealth of a Pineapple.

Posted by Schiffman's at 12:00:00 AM in Herend (38)

Founded in 1826, Herend began in a small village in Hungary. In its humble beginnings it produced pottery. In 1839 the addition of Mor Fisher as the companies new owner brought it into the beginnings of the company we see today. His vision brought Herend into the royal family's, cementing the company’s future with a string of royal success. Herend has been found in such esteemed homes as Princess Diana and even Queen Victoria herself as far back as 1851.

The Pineapple is a 3.5” long by 8.5” high multi-color piece. This limited edition porcelain figurine is the pinnacle of wealth both in modern times and back in the colonial times. Its original implication of wealth came from small, primitive settlements back in colonial times. Any hostess worth her weight in salt would create grand displays of wealth via table settings and the food in which they dined on. Often displays of all shapes and heights were displayed for her guests and only those with the most wealth could afford such luxuries as exotic fruits.

This pineapple, created by Herend, allows people even in modern times to have a lavish, wonderful piece both of beauty and wealth. While the hostess no longer has to resort to renting a pineapple to show her afforded wealth this gorgeous piece of keylime and butterscotch topped with a crown of gold impress the guests.

Gifting challenges

Posted by Schiffman's at 9:55:00 AM in Herend (38)

Gifting for kids used to be easy; but that was then. Nowadays, it’s both difficulty and challenging. One tricky part is that many kids are more demanding about what they really want, pushing the notion that it’s better to buy their gifts for themselves. Giving gift cards and cash seems vulgar without much sentimental significance. So how can one balance this? One good approach is to ask around, like their siblings or friends, about what these youngsters want. If possible, it’s also okay to take them shopping to directly discover their preferences. Actually, it’s also good and practical to give shopping money to kids, but ask them to send you a picture of what they bought. Although this will not cover the monetary value, it will attach your generosity with an actual object while stressing value like gratitude. If you just run out of ideas, why not checkout Herend products? There’s surely one special gift for everyone, even for demanding kids.

Ceramic vs. porcelain

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:00:00 AM in Herend (38)

They both look elegant and luxurious and they both lend to your interior design an artistic flair. But ever wonder what the difference is between porcelain and ceramic dinnerware. Strictly speaking, porcelain is a sub-category of ceramic, which also includes stoneware, pottery, and earthenware. But ceramics are generally referred to as clay products that look more rustic, rugged, and solid than porcelain. The main difference is in the type of clay used and the temperature during firing. Porcelain uses a finer clay and is heated at a higher temperature that makes it finer (hence, fine china) and expressively thinner (hence, the “tink”) than ceramics. Think of ceramics as a less processed clay product than porcelain, which has to undergo a more rigorous manufacturing process. That’s why porcelains like Herend fetch a higher price and are generally seen as more exclusive.

Animal World

Posted by Schiffman's at 2:25:58 AM in Herend (38)

What does a rabbit in tennis wear holding a golden ball and racket and covered in fishnet pattern reminds you of? It’s one of Herend’s adorable handpainted porcelain pieces. The fine china maker has a wide collection of different animal figurines, big and small, meek and majestic, in adorable poses. They are ideal as side table and countertop decors or coffee table centerpieces. Each figurine is the product of over a century of traditional porcelain making since mid-1800s. Today, the fishnet design is a prized Herend design by both professional interior designers and stylish homemakers. Take Some History Home

Posted by Schiffman's at 11:00:00 AM in Herend (38)

Herend as a brand and company is a total classic. It started its operations when it was found in the town of Herend near the city of Veszprem in Hungary in the year 1826. The brand carries a rich history as it stood as a purveyor to the Habsburg Dynasty and aristocratic customers throughout Europe in the mid-19th century. Since then it has captured the world with its intricate patterns and the world-class quality of its pieces. You can take a part of this rich tradition home. You can even have a Herend piece customized to your own style and liking with Herend’s Set My Style service – a service that Herend would have done and still provide for aristocrats. But you can also never go wrong if you choose to purchase any other piece in Herend’s collection especially when you get one with a classic design. This just makes you closer to Herend’s history as you can.

The Animals of Herend

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:35:00 AM in Herend (38)

It’s one thing to read the perfection beauty of a Herend porcelain figurine; it’s another to actually see and touch it. The porcelain signature is a masterpiece, hand painted to create extraordinary gradients and shades in gleaming fine china. Nothing showcases this Herend quality than its Kingdom Classic line. Every year, Herend artists feature a limited animal winning pose as the Kingdom Classic figurine. Some of these winning artworks include the Bald Eagle in perch pose and hand painted in menthol green. The Burrowing Owls strike a cold stare in their bewildering blue-pink-green hue mix. The Bull projects tensed muscles in his massive body, which is captured by Herend artists in a frigid state. The Lion and Lamb strikes a charming, if not quiet, pose, elegantly designed in black and white pattern.

Herend: A Brief History

Posted by Schiffman's at 12:00:00 PM in Herend (38)

In 1826, a small Hungarian village witnessed the foundation of Herend – a producer of earthenware. At this time, low-cost pottery was common in Hungary. The competition it faced was fierce. But Herend proved to have what it takes to rise among its competition and even to world recognition. In 1839, there was a change in ownership and revolutionary change began. When Mor Fischer became the Manufactory’s owner, he took Herend to an entirely new direction. He had a great vision. He carved out a unique niche and produced dinnerware replacement pieces for Europe’s royal families. These pieces were first made to complement valuable porcelain patters imported from Germany and the Far East. Soon the Manufactory reached the important milestone of designing original dinnerware patterns. In 1851, Queen Victoria purchased a large set for Windsor Castle from the Manufactory and ignited further demand from royals and aristocrat throughout Europe. Soon, Herend and its products are known across oceans and continents. Herend showed the world how to enjoy beautiful pieces with functional use.

Herend may be all hand-painted porcelain, but it goes beyond traditional items expected from the material. The Herend home accessories include fanciful items such as baskets, bonbons, boxes, paperweights and garnishments. The home décor line is a collection of various designs and molds, but they all reflect the Herend quality hand-painted trademark. The Large Openwork Ball bonbon is also noteworthy, a magnificent piece that showcases a play of colorful fruits and strewn around the porcelain body. Claws of beauty

Posted by Schiffman's at 7:00:00 AM in Herend (38)

Blame it on the Calypso-singing hermit crab in Disney’s The Little Mermaid, there’s a lovely nostalgia about crabs. The large claws and hard shell beside, these creatures has become adorable sidekicks from being scary monsters of the deep in some fifties film genre. The same cuteness is revered in Herend Crabs & Lobsters collection of hand-painted porcelain figurines. The Ghost Crab is a favourite. Awash in blue tones and patterns, it is an innocent accent anywhere in your home. On the other hand, the Hermit Crab has the playful look in its eyes. Its large claws are less intimidating as they are captivating gleam of surface that showcases Herend’s porcelain art craftsmanship. The Crab and Lobster, meantime, are pieces of serenity; they appear content in their passive posture, their shells gleaming in elegant red-orange patterns. The Herend Crabs & Lobsters do not fail to elicit a happy stare from the child and the child-like.

Not dumb at all

Posted by Schiffman's at 12:45:00 PM in Herend (38)

Bunnies are cute. Bears are adorable. Cats and dogs are favorites. But camels for porcelain figurines? It is hard to imagine a grass-chewing, sluggish, dumb-faced mammal making the rounds to be included in the Herend hand-painted porcelain figurine line. Yet give it to the Herend artists, the Herend camel figurines are lovely. Forget worn-out camel shoes; the Herend camel walks in golden feet.  Take away the used and tattered camel seat covers you imagine on a crowded Cairo street; this porcelain camel chimes as it walks (figuratively) with a royal blanket sewn with golden bells around the cover. Even the body disabuses the rough, rugged, smelly camel skin; our Herend camel is tattooed with elegant patterns that will shame the palace elephants of the Rajah. These camels come in different colors, too: raspberry, butterscotch and chocolate, among others. Sounds appetizing, right?

There is a charm in collecting all Herend hand-painted porcelain cachepots. While cachepots are meant to hide flower pots and add beauty to the plant or flower, the Herend cachepot goes beyond that. It makes the whole flower piece interesting and a magnet for small talk with guests.
