The True value of a Forevermark

Posted by Schiffman's at 10:25:30 AM in Fire & Ice by Forevermark (4)

Many diamonds meet industry grade cuts set by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), the premier industry body for gemstone benchmarks. These brands are guaranteed to exhibit the minimum accepted size, make, and weight of a gemstone, especially diamonds. But some diamond brands go beyond the industry grade. However, GIA won’t tell you this because it only measures diamond products based on GIA chart figures. For example, Fire & Ice by Forevermark is noted to excel in precision cutting that exceeds GIA standards. Still, it will receive similar marks as with other diamond brands because GIA only requires jewelers to meet the minimum requirement. In this case, it pays to know your diamond brand and not to solely rely on standard measurements, lest you’ll miss the true value of what you’re buying.

How to wear elegance

Posted by Schiffman's at 10:20:00 AM in David Yurman (39)

Achieving a sophisticated style for a formal evening or cocktail event takes planning. Of course, the gown that you’re wearing will dictate the whole look, so make sure your dress is apt for the night. It can be an elegant evening gown or a glam cocktail dress. It can be classic long dress or a hugger that emphasize your curves. The color, too, matters. Formal events often require neutral colors, such as white, black, and dark hues. Bright colors can also be used but with great discretion as not to stand out in a crowd in an unflattering way. Likewise, your jewelry and accessories will dictate your style. A simple earring may not be enough to match your dress; hence, a more opulent style like a David Yurman pair of chandelier earrings is ideal.

Grand wedding

Posted by Schiffman's at 10:00:00 AM in Christopher Designs (1)

Most women (and men) would love to hold a grand wedding to mark their union. The reasons are as varied as there are different wedding cake themes possible. Some want a grand wedding to showcase their success or impress their guests. Some see a grand wedding as a symbol of their love for each other. Others still go for a grand wedding because it’s the only chance to see the whole clan together; hence, the wedding becomes a sort of family reunion, too. But what really makes a wedding grand isn’t the elaborate cake or the glitzy beach resort venue for the wedding. Neither is it even the luxurious Christopher Designs Crisscut wedding rings nor the VIPs in the guest list. The grandeur comes from having a fun moment with each other and with everyone, enjoying every minute of the wedding and seeing everyone sharing your fun-filled momentous day.

The Allure of sterling silver

Posted by Schiffman's at 9:00:50 AM in Charles Krypell (41)

Many people are attracted to sterling silver for a number of factors that other precious metals cannot meet. First, sterling silver has the brightest shine compared to other metals. Its white shiny look exudes glamor that fits both formal and casual wear. Second, sterling silver is durable and easily customized or repaired because it is more malleable than gold or platinum. Third, still due to its malleability, sterling silver can be cast with more style and artistry. Jewelers can create intricate patterns with it, as evident in a Charles Krypell sterling silver. Likewise, sterling silver compliments other precious metals and materials, such as, yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, and platinum… even brass, copper, and leather. Lastly, for practical reasons, sterling silver is a lot cheaper than other metals.

Subtle art

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:00:50 AM in Bellari (3)

At first glance at a Bellari jewelry piece you get a sense that this signature is different. Yes, it has multicolored gems as other chic brands do, or that its use of intricate patterns is also being done by other signatures. Yet something makes this brand stand out when all the elements are combined to make a Bellari. The piece becomes a crossover of an emblem and artwork, to be more precise, an abstract painting. The styles have broad appeal, which can adorn a casual dress or a formal gown. Despite using plenty of elements—colors, textures, patterns, shapes—a Bellari maintains an elegant appeal; you don’t feel overwhelmed by the design. You see at once that the artist has great control of her style, much like a slender champagne glass has just the right thinness to keep a steady stand.

Ball technologies

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:00:00 AM in Ball (6)

Watches are first a technological marvel before a luxurious item. Even as many signature brands today have released their lines of glamorous watches accented by precious stones and metals, the timepieces that deliver you the best value for money are those that feature the latest state-of-the-art technologies. These ensure that your watch maintains utmost time accuracy and lifelong durability. This is where Ball watches excel. It’s got not one but numerous patented technologies that make Ball a highly reliable watch—American railroads depend on its accuracy. Its antimagnetic technology guarantees that the watch ticks on a precise regular pattern even if exposed to magnetic fields. The gas light technology lets you see the numerals clearly in the dark without the harsh effect of regular lighting. It also features a patented spring lock movement to ensure precise movement even in extreme weather.

Next stop, Mars?

Posted by Schiffman's at 7:55:00 AM in Omega (36)

Recently, we’ve seen NASA released 360 images of Mars. It’s earthlings first virtual reality feel of the red planet. NASA used the technology of Oculus Rift, the VR product of Facebook. The Martian landscape does look unwelcoming and relentlessly oppressive. The Rover, the probe NASA has sent to Mars, seems to withstand the alien elements. Clearly, the Rover is designed with magnetic stability and atmospheric pressure in mind, two critical physics laws that affect instruments in space. We’re reminded of this situation because, not too long ago, when men first set foot on the moon, a watch had to endure the same space environment so as not to compromise data accuracy. In fact, it’s NASA’s choice of a watch to accompany astronauts: Omega, the first watch on the moon. Next stop, Mars.

Key elements to look for when buying pearls

Posted by Schiffman's at 7:00:00 AM in Mikimoto (40)

Pearls like any other jewelry items vary a lot in different ways. If you’re considering wearing luxury pearl jewelry, you need to know what key characteristics to look for in a pearl so you get the best value. First, check the overall quality of the pearl. Does it look nice or clearly repurposed? You can get a sense of this based on surface markings. If it has scratches, the pearl must be used. Other markings to look for include spots and bubbles. Second, does the pearl’s size merit its price? Generally, the larger the pearl the more expensive it is. Finally, is the pearl’s luster worth the price? Luster is the glowing light that seems to come from within the pearl. The more intense and focused the glow is, the more “perfect” the pearl. If you don’t have time for all this sleuthing, just get a Mikimoto; you’re assured you’re getting the best pearls.

Porcelain perfection

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:00:15 AM in Lladro (32)

Behind every Lladro piece is exceptional artistry and an extensive labor process. Since its birth in 1953, this Spanish company had been creating fascinating art porcelain figurines renowned the world over. While it's true that every artwork begins with inspiration, Lladro sculptors embark on a meticulous procedure involving study and hard work to successfully bring forth an artistic vision into reality. Commencing from the very first artist's sketch, the sculptor produces the prototype in clay, which is then subjected to the thorough study by Lladro's Creative department. The clay's plaster version is then made to function as the initial mold to arrive at the final mold. Intricate figurines may require hundreds of individual molds just to create each individual piece! And once all the parts of a particular design are made and assembled, the decoration stage begins, which involves another set of complicated activities like polishing, painting, etc. It is then cooked in a kiln and subjected to strict quality control. Well, that's perfection through talent and hard work.

Love's many faces

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:00:00 AM in Metalsmiths Sterling (34)

Claddagh rings had long been a time-honored and purposeful way of showing the different kinds of love and affection people show to each other. Worn since Roman times, these rings bear three distinct symbols to represent these various forms of adoration — the crown represents loyalty, the heart for love, and the hands for friendship. There are also different ways a claddagh ring is worn to manifest its different meanings. If you wear it on your right hand, it functions as a friendship or promise ring. If you put in in your left, it is a wedding band or engagement ring. When you wear it with the crown facing out, you are searching for love and devotion. And if your wear it with the crown facing inwards, it is a declaration that you are very much in love.

So why not be part of this age-old tradition? Get your Metalsmiths Sterling Claddagh rings at Schiffman's at Friendly Center.
