A Cut that Fits a Princess

Posted by Schiffman's at 9:00:25 AM in FireMark Diamonds (35)

When people hear diamonds they quickly think of the classic round brilliant. But diamonds can also be square or rectangular, or what's called the princess cut, which was popularized in the sixties. Unlike the round brilliant, princess cut evokes a contemporary style loved by stylish and modern career-driven women. Ironically, despite weighing more than its round counterpart, the princess cut is slightly cheaper because there's less processing (cutting and polishing) involved, leaving the corners intact. However, it is by no means inferior to the classic diamond; in the hands of FireMark Diamonds, the princess cut achieves the height of its brilliance, clarity, and color. FireMark is known in the industry to produce the most perfectly cut Princess Diamond, a claim backed by the independent Gemological Institute of America.

Eating with Formalities

Posted by Schiffman's at 9:00:00 AM in Pickard (32)

You're now a successful businessman and an important person, who important people want to meet. Imagine you're about to host your first formal evening with VIP guests from politics and foreign dignitaries. It's an opportunity not just to showcase your Pickard porcelain dinnerware collection, but more importantly to exude your social grace and status... or risk falling flat on your face if you're not aware of formal dining etiquette. It's quite simple. You, as the host, sit at the “center” of the seating arrangement. In a round table that means your seat is considered as the center. To your right sits the most important guest and to your left the next most important and so on. The farther the guest from you the less importance he or she exemplifies.

Life is Not about Diamonds

Posted by Schiffman's at 9:00:00 AM in Hearts on Fire (32)

They say life is about experiences, not diamonds. It's not about the wealth you create, but how you spend that wealth to expand your horizons, learn new things, or meet new friends. It isn't about buying the most expensive suburban house that you can get, but where you build that house—on top of a cliff or in the middle of the rainforest—to experience a deeper perspective. A C-class sedan may set you apart from the rest, but a tough road SUV that takes to the farthest road down south is more exciting, more fulfilling. It isn't about the signature bag that you carry, but the rough and tough luggage that packs in all that you need in life as you travel around the world. It isn't about the Hearts On Fire diamond ring that he gave you...well, is about diamonds in some way.

More than that Thing You Put in your Mouth

Posted by Schiffman's at 9:15:00 AM in Reed & Barton Silversmiths (32)

Reed & Barton Silversmiths is more than just a collection of fine sterling silver spoons, forks, and knives. It's a collectible set of cutlery and utensils inspired by art, heritage, and style. For example, the Reed & Barton Silversmiths Thomas O'Brien collection exhibits the artist's “warm modernism,” a fusion of classic comfort and vanguard middle-of-century lines that lend to this set a subtle elegance. The collection is easily a preferred choice by collectors and people with a literal taste for luxury. Likewise, the Williamsburg by Reed & Barton Silversmiths exudes colonial America with a reinterpretation of Colonel Williamsburg's dinnerware collections. These items showcase eighteenth-century decorative traditions. More importantly, parts of the proceeds from this collection help support the preservation, promotion, and research projects of the nonprofit Colonel Williamsburg Foundation.

The Only Serious Challenger to David Yurman's Cable Bracelet

Posted by Schiffman's at 9:00:00 AM in David Yurman (42)

You've known David Yurman for its iconic design, the Cable bracelet, a twisted helix accented by gemstones. It remains to this day its most beloved item, a special place that is, arguably, always under threat of being snatched by that other David Yurman's signature: the Albion. From rings to bracelets and necklaces, the Albion exhibits the grace of sterling silver and the opulence of colored gemstones, such as lavender amethyst and cabochon simulated turquoise. The collection also features pave diamonds to add elegance to an already luxurious piece. And now, the Albion presents its latest: the Albion watch. It's stainless steel with quartz movement and accented by tiny diamonds. The bracelet, of course, features the iconic coil. Looking at it, many agree that it isn't a watch, but a jewelry that tells time.

The Crisscrossing Uniqueness

Posted by Schiffman's at 9:00:00 AM in Christopher Designs (37)

The Christopher Designs Crisscut Diamond is easy to spot because it glows brighter than industry standard diamonds. It reflects a more intense fire, a reminder that this gemstone has come from the earth's bowels, compressed into minute facets over millions of years. The Crisscut design features a crisscrossing cut that reveals the multiple facets of the diamond. This creates more brilliance that engages the eye and melts the heart of anyone looking into the gemstone. Christopher Designs took decades of craftsmanship to perfect this diamond cutting process. The founder, Christopher Slowinski, has learned the art from his long experience with master jewelers in Europe more than thirty years ago. Today, his crisscrossing cutting technique is a standalone process protected by U.S. and international patents, a unique achievement in the industry.

Jewels of your dining table

Posted by Schiffman's at 9:00:00 AM in Salisbury (32)

Salisbury not only brings elegance to your dining table; it captures essence and creates a mystic aura in it, a magnet for small talk among your dinner guests or friends. For instance, the Salisbury Golden Lotus Plate recreates for your table set the Buddhist symbol of purity and sacredness. The lotus means hope in eastern religions, symbolized by the drama of the flower springing out of the mud and blooming in white flower. This rebirth and cleansing aura is styled into the Salisbury Golden Lotus Plate. Moreover, the same design is replicated in the cups and saucers to give your table set a complete mystic theme. The pieces are rimmed in gold for extra strength and luxury. These are definitely not just plates, but the jewels of your dining experience.

The Lost Art of Glassblowing

Posted by Schiffman's at 11:00:00 AM in Simon Pearce (32)

Many of us take for granted the art of glassblowing when we sit down over dinner and our glasses on our plates' side. A closer look at these glasses though, one is reminded of the age-old technique perfected through the skills of ancient craftsmen handed down from one generation to the next. Maybe we're so used with the drinking glasses we use daily every meal because they've been mass manufactured in a sprawling factory somewhere in China. But if it's a Simon Pearce, wouldn't you not fail to notice the elegance and mark of perfection of this brand? We wouldn't because it's one of the few remaining hand crafted glass products in the world today. The art itself, Simon Pearce, the founder,  teaches in European glass houses and through studies at no less than the Royal College of Art in London, U.K.
