The Poppin’ Bicego Sapphires

Posted by Schiffman's at 12:20:00 PM in Marco Bicego (46)

The Italian master of bulino-made jewelry, Marco Bicego, never ceases to inspire the world with his breathtaking Italian handcrafted pieces of luxury in his array of exquisite collections. A gemstone variety of the mineral corundum, an aluminum oxide, sapphire traces amounts of other elements such as iron, titanium, chromium, copper, or magnesium which can give corundum blue, yellow, purple, orange, or a greenish color. Chromium impurities in corundum yield a pink or red tint, the latter being called a ruby. Since sapphires are commonly worn in jewelry, Marco Bicego uses this extraordinary stone to create an extraordinary collection. Unveiling one of his most phenomenal collections, the Siviglia Sapphire Collection features hand-textured gold confetti beads set with radiant sapphires. The popping of sapphires’ imperfect shapes and bright colors set the perfect mood for any event, creating a versatile look with its perfect gold setting.

Little pieces of art

Posted by Schiffman's at 9:00:00 AM in Orrefors (33)

Hand blown glass is alluring, almost hypnotizing. Especially if it is Orrefors, the art glass signature made into utility cocktail items. Like wine stoppers. This seemingly insignificant part of your cocktail set is transformed into a minimalist art piece like it is designed for the gallery exhibit. It does cap the wine bottle, but looking at the elegant and gleaming facets Orrefors wine stoppers is almost like appreciating a diamond. The design cuts across a range of styles, from the multi-faceted to the singular smooth surface. The Orrefors wine stoppers are even made more elegant as light touches and passes through them. It is an explosion of lights gleaming inside and radiating a glow outside. As with other Orrefors collectible glass items the wine stoppers use the glassmaking technology and tradition of Sweden, considered the origin of hand blown glass art.

The Laveno line

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:00:00 AM in Richard Ginori (32)

Too many Richard Ginori collections to choose from? How about starting with the Laveno line. Variedly themed and exhibiting the same Richard Ginori trademark of high-quality tin-glazed ceramics, Laveno comes in three flavors:  Blue Sponge, Folkware and White.  Blue Sponge is awash in patterns that rim the items, reminiscent of a microscopic look at a breathing sponge. The sea blue adds to the oceanic breezy touch to the theme. Folkware is more playful and spontaneous and liberally uses various patterns from floral to leafy strokes. The colors are confidently interlaced, such as deep purple with a subdued apple green, and the result is surprisingly complementary. Meantime, the White line is classic in simplicity. All three Laveno themes by Richard Ginori include vegetable dish, luncheon plate, salad and dessert plate and soup plate.

What is simple is most beautiful

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:00:00 AM in Reed & Barton Silversmiths (32)

It uses simple strokes and monochromatic colors, but the result is elegant and artistic. The Reed & Barton Silversmiths porcelain dinnerware line serves in a platter the axiom that what is simple is most beautiful. The Austin Floral design achieves depth using various shades of indigo and ivory. The hue singularity exudes a classical feel, highlighted by gradients and color saturations to create the floral scenes. The berries, leaves, stems and butterflies are unified in monochrome, yet each creates its apparent movement, delicately touched by the artist’s deft hands. The idea is to complete the Reed & Barton Silversmiths floral dinnerware in one color to heighten the monochrome flavor.  Collecting all Austin Floral items, including dinner plates, platters, saucers, pitchers and cups, is a taste of art as it is for value.

Reed & Barton Silversmiths is available at Schiffman's in Downtown Greensboro.

The Mystery of the Emerald

Posted by Schiffman's at 7:00:00 AM in Christopher Designs (37)

A relatively hard stone, the emerald is known for its naturally occurring internal flaws called inclusions. These inclusions generally make the stone vulnerable to breakage and difficult to cut and so a “cut” is developed—a stepped, rectangular cut with cropped corners today we know as the “emerald cut”. Because the cut has long lines, it tends to have broad and dramatic flashes of light which jewelers found fitting to cut a diamond.

Christopher Designs, a virtuoso in diamond jewelry, found the cut very interesting and developed an exclusive cut and patented as the CrissCut Emerald. While a normal emerald cut has 46 facets, the CrissCut Emerald can manage 77 facets creating unmatched brilliance and scintillation. The neat lines of the CrissCut Emerald give elegance from the simplest to the most complex ring settings.

The best “emerald cut” is now at Schiffman’s! CrissCut Emerald is available at Schiffman’s in Downtown Greensboro. Schiffman’s is a proud dealer of Christopher Designs.

China made in England

What is it with bone china that makes dining so elegant? Is it the gleaming ivory surface or that “tink” that you hear with a slight knock of the spoon on the porcelain? Perhaps it is the irony of fine china, at once delicate and sturdy, that adds to its appeal. After all, not even oceans can claim shiploads of centuries-old porcelain that have been unearthed in recent times, lending further mystic to this luminous material. Many a porcelain attraction is made even starker by a Salisbury dinnerware. Silver heritage

Posted by Schiffman's at 10:00:00 AM in The 925 (32)

Silver is a favorite precious metal because of its gleaming beauty and rarity. When man learned to mix the metal with another other metal for added strength, silver becomes sterling silver, a perfect utilitarian luxury in royal dining sets.  From cutlery to plates, pitchers to bowls, sterling silver ware becomes a must-have by hosts wanting to impress sophistication and social class on their guests.  But not all silver ware are made equal. The key is to have the right mix, the so-called .925% silver combined with a sturdy metal, usually copper. What better name to brand a company that has perfected this ratio than, well, The 925? The sterling silver brand celebrates the luxury heritage of the precious metal in elegant photo frames, cutlery and other sterling silver items.

Crafter in honor of the Butler family and Earl of Ormonde, the server centerpiece alludes to the family’s strong ties and the sturdy character of its head of the family. The piece is set heavy and cut in bold patterns around its outer surface. The scalloped top and gleaming translucent finish are reminiscent of a Waterford-level glassblowing and cutting skills that date back for centuries. Nothing too small for art

You can easily see the superior workmanship in Mottahedeh silverware. The design and work is detailed; you know it cannot be mass produced. The art is extravagant without being hysterical. It does not clamor for attention; it just gets one unwittingly. The lines and curves are controlled; only the artisan’s deftly hands can achieve a slender and symmetrical finish. And when you carry it, the weight is clearly solid Mottahedeh. You can sense these characteristics even in the most basic item of the Mottahedeh dinnerware: the wine coaster. Nothing is too small for the artists to fashion out detailed carvings and mold the coaster in continuous almost dancing silver lines. The Grapevine Wine Coaster is but a small token what Mottahedeh’s artisans can create. The signature also offers porcelain and brass items for giftware and home décor.

The Man in Mankind

Posted by Schiffman's at 9:00:00 AM in Marco Bicego (46)

Uomo is the Italian word for man, or mankind, or humanity. The word "mankind" can be traced back to a specific use of this lost word "mann" from the Anglo-Saxon word "mann-cynn," meaning both a group of men and all humanity. But, the word “man” is rarely used these days to mean “all humanity” – it is almost never gender-neutral nowadays. So Italian “uomo” could most definitely mean “male” – a word we would use to mean the ones we call father, brother, and son.

At Marco Bicego, the word Uomo personifies a whole new world of manhood. With Marco Bicego’s first collection of jewelry for men, the “Uomo Collection,” men will now have the opportunity to be perfectly in sync with the timeless allure and elegance of the eminent Marco Bicego women’s collection. The Uomo Collection is instinctive and inspired by the very voyages that guide man around the world time and time again.

The Diverse Beauty of Bali

Posted by Schiffman's at 11:00:00 AM in John Hardy (39)

Beauty comes in many forms and viewed in different perspectives. Beauty is universal and diverse, it can be found in shapes and lines of different dimensions, and it can be understood by everyone. It has many sources but its bounty is found in nature. In so many places, this beauty is in bizarre kind, exotic and surreal. A place with this kind of beauty, is Bali.

Bali is a province of Indonesia. The province covers a few small neighboring islands as well as the isle of Bali. The main island is located in the westernmost end of the Lesser Sunda Islands, lying between Java to the west and Lombok to the east. It is one of the country's 34 provinces with the provincial capital at Denpasar towards the south of the island. It is renowned for its diverse and sophisticated art forms, such as painting, sculpture, woodcarving, handcrafts, and performing arts. Bali boasts one of the most diverse and innovative performing arts cultures in the world, with paid performances at thousands of temple festivals, private ceremonies, or public shows.

Bali has a lot to offer, its culture, arts, history and ecology. Paradise-like beaches surround the island and rich biodiversity is a natural setting for the inhabitants, things that are world-known. Balinese craftsmanship is also making a name in the jewelry industry by the name of John Hardy.

John Hardy jewelry was founded by Canadian designer and artist, John Hardy. His journey started after he visited Bali in 1975. He fell in love with its nature, crafts and arts. In that same year, he established his design studio and gradually developed into a large enterprise.

Using traditional Balinese techniques, John Hardy created many of the world’s most unique and exceptional jewelry collections. These are collections inspired by the flows and curves of water and the natural forms of flora and fauna. Some of his most exquisite collections are awe-inspired by the culture and tradition of Bali and the rich heritage of the province. His most adored pieces represent some of the Indonesian and South East Asian royalties. Using precious and semi-precious gemstones such as sapphire, topaz, emerald, ruby and citrine, he has produced jewelry pieces that combine reality and fantasy.

Timeless and sophisticated in their own right, each John Hardy collection possesses a beauty unique from the others. Bamboo, Bedeg, Classic Chain, Dot, Kali, Naga, Palu, Men’s and Children’s are some of these red carpet statement collections.

For his love of Bali and the nature surrounding it, John Hardy is deeply devoted in the creation of every piece. A lot of skill, time and dedication are cornerstones to produce a single breathtaking Balinese hand-crafted jewelry. But with these cornerstones should always be accompanied with love, so much love for Balinese arts and craftsmanship.

Resulting from this love is the birth of the Cinta Collection. The Cinta is the rarest collection of Haute Joaillerie. “Cinta” is the Indonesian word for “love” and the pieces are designed around a special shell or unusual stone found on Guy Bedarida’s world travels. Guy Bedarida is John Hardy’s Head Designer and through him, the Cinta is born.

Among the Cinta pieces are the Tears of the Dragon, earrings of 18 karat pink gold featuring a teardrop briolette of Rose de France suspended from a gold Naga and square-cut Moon Quartz. Rose de France is a member of the Amethyst family, distinguished by its pale lilac hue. The Naga is the cosmic dragon, symbolic of the life force that brings love, prosperity and protection. On top of the list is the Savu Volcano Orchid, a ring of 18 karat gold with Marble Cone Shell framed in a jeweled orchid motif and featuring a Spessartite center stone set in a pool of red and black Sapphires, red Spinels, and black Diamonds, like a cauldron of volcanic lava. Savu is a remote island in southeastern Indonesia, with an ancient animistic culture. Another favorite piece from the Cinta is the Kali Sila Rose, a ring made of 18 karat pink Gold set with Amethysts, Sapphires, and Diamonds in the John Hardy signature Kali motif. The random pebble shapes are inspired by the water-smoothed stones that line the rivers of Bali. Kali means "river." Sila is high Balinese for "stone."

Every John Hardy piece is a unique experience of Bali and every time you wear it is a display of the diverse beauty of what Bali has to offer. Traditional hand-crafted jewelry with the twist of contemporary designs interpreted in a soul-reaching way—beauty beyond beautiful, Bali that is, the John Hardy way.

Capturing Moulin Rouge

Posted by Schiffman's at 9:10:00 AM in Philippe Deshoulieres (32)

Looking for an impressive line of fine china to enliven the bland table set? Then go French. Philippe Deshoulieres, the leading French signature for fine porcelain, has a full range of fine porcelain tableware from cups and saucers, tea pots, dinnerware and centerpieces. The Bal du Moulin Rouge is easily one of its best collections. Inspired by the illustrations of Charles Gesmar, model maker and artist of the twenties, the dinnerware reflects the Art Deco movement of his time. An explosion of grey, red and pink runs across the Moulin Rouge line, including cake platters, coffee cups, tea cups and saucers. The art is vivid, unmistakably an evocative take of cabaret music, teasing, inviting and inescapable. The Truffle Craze

Posted by Schiffman's at 9:00:00 AM in Judith Ripka Essentials (33)

Truffles, relatively the most expensive food in the world, are round warty, and irregular in shape and vary from the size of a walnut to that of a man’s fist. People love truffles. What’s so peculiar about this ultimate foodie’s treat is that it isn’t a food for the taste bud, rather, a perfume for the hungry but discerning nose.  Truffles are irresistible because their aroma is composed of chemicals that mimic mammalian reproductive pheromones. Eating, even sniffing, a truffle is a bit like being drugged.

Since truffles are very highly prized by people, Judith Ripka Essentials created a bracelet that surely resembles this craze, this time, one does not need a pig to readily search them out. Treat your wrist to the impeccable sophistication of Judith Ripka’s Sterling & 14K Clad 7-1/4" Truffle Bead Bracelet – this 14K gold-clad sterling silver truffle bead bracelet is deliciously chic. Textured oval links join stations of openwork beads, which glisten with accents of round, bezel-set Diamonique simulated diamonds, to create the upscale yet always-appropriate look.

The Touch of light

Posted by Schiffman's at 9:00:00 AM in Orrefors (33)

If you are looking for cheap, mass-produced glass at its most utilitarian feature, you made a wrong turn somewhere. Orrefors is art fused into glass. Or is it the other way around? The carefully molded and carved finish is clearly Scandinavian and reminiscent of the high form of traditional glass art making. Orrefors’ craftsmanship is traced back centuries ago to the traditional glassblowing skills of artisans in Smaland, Sweden. Whether it is in cobalt black finish, translucent deep blue or gleaming water-like look, an Orrefors glass is elegance at the core. Use it as a centerpiece in your living room, an accent to adorn an empty corner, or a display to enliven a side table in your room beside a lamp. Watch Orrefors come to life as light touches its slender, gleaming surface.

Perfection is a Fact

Posted by Schiffman's at 10:00:15 AM in Hearts on Fire (32)

Arguments and clashes are too deafening especially if everybody wants to be heard. Uncontrollable chaos and eardrum damaging shrieks and yells will flood the floors if all will be given the chance to speak. Nobody wants to be the next or the last; everybody wants to be the first. No matter how they argue about who among the brands has the best diamonds, there could only be one fact that will conclude any argument; Hearts on Fire comes at first and the undisputed best, still the reigning world’s most perfectly cut diamond. But, why Hearts on Fire?

First you have to understand the big "Q". Quality—Hearts on Fire is the only brand in the world that can exclusively claim perfection. Perfection is the quality set for every Hearts on Fire diamond. I’m sure you have already heard of the 4 C’s (cut, color, clarity and carat), but what you haven’t heard yet is that the cut determines 50% of the diamond value. Hearts on Fire diamonds are cut at 100x power magnification which is more than 10x the industry standard earning it the coveted brand title of The World's Most Perfectly Cut Diamond. This high-quality cut makes color and clarity less of a determining factor and has led Hearts On Fire to simplify the buying process by grouping the serialized diamonds in diamond engagement rings as one, high-quality diamond category: Sensational. A “sensational” serialized diamond means your diamond is in the near-colorless G, H, I color range with a VS1 to SI1 Clarity.

Hearts on Fire’s claim is a fact evidenced by a Diamond Identity Document. This document includes your diamonds unique serial number, Kimberley Process Certification, all vital statistics and comparative cut scale. This is provided by the Hearts on Fire team to give you the peace of mind and the guarantee that what you purchased is of superior quality and extreme beauty only found in your diamond. Be it noted that every Hearts on Fire diamond engagement ring is centered with Sensational quality diamond.

HOF doesn’t just pick diamonds. They have standards to follow and their standard is to select only the rarest kind of diamond crystals. Master cutters don’t just do cutting, they cut and polish diamonds not at 10x magnification but 100x magnification. In the entire world, only 400 master diamond cutters are blessed to cut perfectly and these experts are all found in HOF house. Hearts on Fire secret cutting method is the formula that keeps them on top, and because it is a secret, we cannot talk about it here. But because of this secret cutting method, Hearts on Fire achieves perfectly cut diamonds with perfect symmetry, perfect proportions, perfect polish and perfect alignment, the perfection a diamond could possibly be.

Diamond is about light. How much light our diamonds exude will definitely determine the kind of cut wherein scintillation depends on. While other inferior diamonds emit imperfect and partial light, a HOF diamond prides its light display of eight perfectly symmetrical hearts and Fireburst patterns each time, where the Company got its name from.

Now that you have the answer, please feel relieved that you have not been robbed by buying inferior diamonds. Your reading about Hearts on Fire is an enlightenment that you will surely carry on along with every purchase of diamond and you know that a Hearts on Fire diamond is a wise-buy. You are paying for the real thing and not for the deceiving advertisements that other bait to lure buyers.

Hearts on Fire provides a wide selection of diamond jewelry to choose from. Diamond necklaces, diamond earrings, diamond bracelets, diamond rings as well as engagement and wedding rings are the best among their kind in the market. After you purchase your diamond, the Company wants you protected. Because of the superior brilliance and the priceless value of HOF diamonds, it is for a fact that unwanted and uninvited circumstances are attracted; lost, damaged or stolen. In order to avoid these things, HOF suggests to properly insure your jewelry. Make sure that you receive a retail replacement valuation for your purchase (included with every online Hearts On Fire diamond purchase). If you have homeowner’s insurance, you should then immediately send this form to your insurance company. Your insurer will add a rider to your existing homeowner’s policy and charge you annually an amount based on the retail replacement value.

Perfection is the only thing at the end of the tunnel for Hearts on Fire. Every attempt takes a lot of effort, but every time, Hearts on Fire achieves what others cannot and what they will never be. There’s a saying that “nobody is perfect,” but something is.  Perfection is Hearts on Fire diamond.

Be part of a fact; hold the perfection of Hearts on Fire diamonds. See them at Schiffman’s in Winston-Salem, where perfection resides. Schiffman’s is an authorized dealer for Hearts on Fire.

Cut to Perfection

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:55:00 AM in FireMark Diamonds (35)

A diamond cut is a style or design guide used when shaping a diamond for polishing such as the brilliant cut. Cut does not refer to shape (pear, oval), but the symmetry, proportioning and polish of a diamond. The cut of a diamond greatly impacts a diamond's brilliance; this means if it is cut poorly, it will be less luminous. Indeed, a diamond's cut is crucial to the stone's final beauty and value. And of all the diamond 4Cs, it is the most complex and technically difficult to analyze.

Other companies have advertising slogans or tag lines that claim their diamonds are the most perfectly cut. But the FireMark Princess has been put to the test by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), the world’s foremost diamond authority, and the Gem Certification & Assurance Lab (GCAL), a leader in grading the light performance of diamonds. And the results are unprecedented -- 98% average light return (95% minimum), "Excellent" ratings from the GIA in both Polish and Symmetry, and "Excellent" grades for Light Performance from GCAL.

To See the Best of Cs

Posted by Schiffman's at 10:50:00 AM in Christopher Designs (37)

Unbreakable—diamond is the hardest substance on earth. There are numerous scientific terms about diamonds that a layman, without researching, will not understand. Most of us know diamonds not about their chemical composition and properties but because they are the most famous celebrities in jewelry. And because we are familiar with jewelry, we are familiar with diamonds and so with the 4 C’s. Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat—these four C’s are the determinative factors to value our diamonds.

We have to know these kinds of things, because these C’s are as important as your loved one whom you will give diamond jewelry. We don’t want to waste your money for a crap and so do you. You have to make sure that you are paying for is truly worth your money. We can tell you to buy a Christopher Designs piece, but we want to clarify some important points to consider.

First is the Cut. Most diamonds are cut round with full 58 facets, and a good cut, or make, has more scintillation, more sparkle. It is the work of a master cutter that allows the diamond to be cut in such a way as to permit the maximum amount of light to be reflected through the diamond, and that's a great reflection on you. It is the cut that enables a diamond to make the best use of light. Christopher Designs is patented with the exclusive CrissCut, giving more than 109 facets, allowing superior brilliance and maximum light in your diamond.

Next is the Color. Diamond color is graded according to the GIA Grading Scale. Grades are based on the amount of yellow that is visible when viewed face-down through the pavilion on a white diamond color card using daylight equivalent fluorescent light. Each color grade is based on a very small range. When a diamond is color graded it is compared using a set of master stones. Master stones are a set of real diamonds that display a range of known colors. It is extremely difficult to see the color differences within diamonds, but master stones help graders distinguish between one color and the next.

By dropping one color grade in diamond, you will not be giving up anything in the look of your diamond and you will be saving money, especially when you buy diamond from Christopher Designs.

The diamond's clarity is a description of its internal purity. With fewer imperfections within the stone, the diamond is rarer and has a higher value. The clarity scale was developed by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) to quantify these imperfections. The American Gem Society (AGS) uses the same standards as the GIA; however, the AGS uses a numerical system where "0" is the cleanest (GIA "IF") and "10" is the most imperfect (GIA "I3"). All diamonds are systematically graded and plotted under 10X magnification. If a trained grader cannot see a clarity characteristic at 10X, it does not affect the clarity grade.

Usually with diamonds possessing SI1 clarity, Christopher Designs are more than happy to give you the information you are looking for in your diamond, including its clarity. Diamond specifications are given even to most minute details.

Finally, the Carat. A carat is a weight measuring unit equal to 0.2 grams. It is the internationally used unit to measure the weight of diamonds. As nature would have it, rough diamonds come in all shapes and sizes, as well as colors and purities. The larger, whiter and cleaner the diamond, the more rare it is. Accordingly, the cost per carat of a larger diamond of the same color, clarity and cut will be higher than a smaller diamond. The price per carat of diamonds rises proportionately with size. Keep in mind that the per carat price gets multiplied by the carat weight.

Of course at Christopher Designs, we offer diamonds at different weights. While you are guaranteed to the exactness and quality of diamonds you purchase, we gladly inform you that we offer the best prices, reasonably affordable depending on the over-all look Christopher Designs pieces can make.

Comes in Round, Emerald, Cushion and Asscher CrissCuts, Christopher Designs, an established jewelry company spearheaded by the owner and designer himself, Christopher Slowinski offers the best of diamonds today possessing superiority in all 4 C’s—CrissCut diamonds; the high-quality and world-class produce only from the master diamond jewelry company, Christopher Designs.

It’s Your Time, Dad!

Posted by Schiffman's at 10:00:00 AM in David Yurman (2)

He is the first man we ever have in our life. We address him with different names and though we differ in languages, we address him with great respect and adoration. Wikipedia defines the word “father” as a male parent or individual progenitor of human offspring and the verb "to father" means to procreate or to sire a child from which also derives the gerund "fathering". As a child, while mom taught us how to clean ourselves, dad taught us how to play with dirt and play with mud at the front yard. He taught us the rougher things in life and how to deal with them with good logic. And for all the good things he has done, he never asked for anything in return. He would just sit in his chair and quietly read the newspaper. He would always be the first man in our life, nothing can change that. Since Father’s Day is fast approaching, we again celebrate the life of the man to whom we owe everything—our dearest father. And to thank the best dads in the world, David Yurman has something to share with all of us.

Father's Day is a celebration honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. Many countries celebrate it on the third Sunday of June, but it is also celebrated widely on other days. Father’s Day is right knocking at the door, so it’s time to buy him a gift and David Yurman offers an array of precious mementos our dads will surely love for the upcoming celebration. Timepieces, rings, tag necklaces, bracelets, cufflinks and chains, you name it.

David Yurman's timepieces are absolute premiums. The Men’s Classic timepieces are all meticulously designed and crafted without compromise, timepieces that were born out of absolute precision. Timeless luxury of Swiss movement housed in fluid lines and flawless fit case. This classic timepiece moves minute into hours and seconds sweep elegantly to the pace of true Swiss precision. Each movement has been transformed with the modification of the custom designed David Yurman skeleton rotor. Meticulously hand-finished, the dial of each Classic timepiece has a mechanism to cast light and subtle shadow across a circular guilloche pattern, complimented by custom applied DY numerals. The dial’s finish and unique details transform the traditional timepiece into a modern American design classic. The timeless Classic also comes with in timeless custom designed deployant clasp. This stainless steel clasp, stippled with the David Yurman logo on the inside, and engraved with the same iconic monogram on the outside is finished with double pushers. It is made for the perfect fit; the deployant is complimented with the finest matte alligator strap.

While Classic timepieces are perfect gifts, rings are also a sure win. Gallant or simple, David Yurman’s rings are strikingly awesome and have a rightful place in daddy’s wardrobe. For cooler dads, they deserve a cooler gift. Tag necklaces are tags made with exotic stone tablets of different shades and griffin tags, each with the David Yurman logo. Bracelets are also on top of the gift list. David Yurman’s men’s bracelets are statement pieces which can be individual or made with contemporary mix of beads, chains and woven leather worn together. To die for cufflinks and studd sets also come in handy at David Yurman, designs which have distinguished end note and distinctive polish that will suit daddy in any way. With tag comes the chain. Chains are the cool factor of tag necklaces, charms and amulets, so be sure to give him one or in multiple layers.

Classic and timeless craftsmanship is not just what David Yurman is known for. More than any label, he wants the universality of his wondrous creations. He sees to it that every member of the society has something from his pieces, and each is as special as the other. Because Father’s Day is a special occasion, David Yurman makes sure that we give our dearest fathers not only these luxurious treats but as well as the love and gratitude that is coming from the bottom of our hearts.

Celebrating with all fathers in the world, Schiffman’s in Winston-Salem offers everything from David Yurman. From the bottom of our hearts, we from Schiffman’s greets you a Happy Father’s Day! Schiffman’s is an authorized dealer for David Yurman.

Simply elegant or elegantly simple?

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:00:35 AM in Richard Ginori (32)

Mention artistic tin-glazed pottery and a Richard Ginori piece comes to mind. Like its Eclissi Platinum collection. There is an Art Nouveau feel that runs across its coffee cups and saucers, plates and platters and sugar bowls and milk jars. The glazed dinnerware is deceivingly simple, but it’s a product of Richard Ginori craftsmanship whose inspiration dates back to the Renaissance ceramic-making tradition. An Eclissi platinum item is impressively delicate, matching the thinness and “vulnerability” look of fine china.  The rims are platinum-plated to add strength and accent. It is a classy touch to a morning set, an afternoon break or a quiet dinner. The Eclissi line is also available in white palette, which exudes a Romanesque feel to its collection of cups, plates, saucers, servers and bowls.

Revered and sacred

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:00:00 AM in Salisbury (32)

The lotus is a symbol of purity in ancient religions, even a sacred flower in Buddhism. Springing out from mud, the flower emerges unblemished and blooming with hope. It represents a rebirth and cleansing of the soul. Those philosophical meanings may be too much for your dining table, but the Salisbury Golden Lotus plate captures the same aura. The lotus theme also includes cups and saucers, highlighting a golden yellow bloom and rendered with deep shades and smooth gradients on a backdrop of a healthy serving of green. The Golden Lotus pieces are rimmed in gold that makes the line almost a revered collection. A Salisbury piece is designed for utility, over fine dining or a casual lunch.  But we won’t fault you should you put the Golden Lotus plate on a pedestal and protect it behind a locked dinner cabinet. Woe to anyone who touches it.

With Silver, The Better

Posted by Schiffman's at 10:00:00 AM in Charles Krypell (43)

Not everything that sparkles is diamond. But some are as good, like silver. Glossy and smooth, sterling silver is one of the most popular metals used in jewelry. Commonly used in eating utensils, silver wares are our dearest household’s most precious. Since ancient times, it has been considered as priceless treasures.

The sterling alloy originated in continental Europe and was being used for commerce as early as the 12th century in the area that is now northern Germany. Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% by mass of silver and 7.5% by mass of other metals, usually copper. The sterling silver standard has a minimum millesimal fineness of 925.

Fine silver is 99.9% pure and is generally too soft for producing functional objects; therefore, the silver is usually alloyed with copper to give it strength while preserving the ductility and beauty of the precious metal. Other metals can replace the copper, usually with the intent to improve various properties of the basic sterling alloy such as reducing casting porosity, eliminating fire scale, and increasing resistance to tarnish.

Because of its fine and unique metallic properties, it is the most favored metal used in eating implements and cutlery sets. Abundant and practical, sterling silver is an ideal material for everything useful and everyday use. Charles Krypell has a personal crave for the same metal, and his way of showing it is through fine jewelry.

Yes, Sterling Collection is a designer jewelry that comes at a very affordable price. Distincly simple

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:40:00 AM in Simon Pearce (32)

There is a serene, almost Zen-like, air in a Simon Pearce piece, be it glassware, ceramic, lighting or home decor. The potter’s patient touches to bring a Simon Pearce ceramic to life or the glassblower’s calculated molding to fashion out slender lines from molten glass seems to plow into its elegant five-piece cutlery line. The Woodbury Chopper is stainless steel that is hand treated to create a burnished finish. The spoon, fork, and knife exhibit an irony of rustic and smooth sensations. Contrast this to the modern classic lines of the Pride Flatware designed by renowned English metalworker David Mellor. The set is simple yet timeless, a fit in any occasion. Other five-piece sets include the Pewter, Chelsea, Corinth and Paris flatware. Each one has its distinct style, yet all reflects the Simon Pearce simplicity in elegance.

Porcelain par excellence

Posted by Schiffman's at 10:00:00 AM in Anna Weatherley (31)

Anna Weatherley porcelain China hand paintedDid you know that although porcelain is generally considered to come from China, the name is derived from the old Italian world porcellana, meaning a cowrie shell? The factor that makes porcelain tough and translucent, as opposed to ceramics, is the glass and the mineral mullite that form when subjecting clay in the form of kaolin at extreme heat. The porcelain’s strength, whiteness, translucency and resonance are the primary factors that make this material perfect for housewares and tableware. Porcelain is even made more perfect when hand painted like an Anna Weatherley Amber Leaf collection. The leaves, vines and butterflies appear to be “inside” the porcelain, creating a depth that is twice made deeper by the smooth hue transitions. Enjoy porcelain at its best with this collection that includes plates, cocktail dish and platters.

Transparent masterpiece

The art and workmanship of crystal art is unparalleled in a Waterford Crystal commemorative piece. Renowned for crystal-making craftsmanship, Waterford has had issued distinct crystal sculptures to celebrate or observe an event. The Skuldeleve Viking Longboat is a masterpiece of a Viking galley replica complete with rowing men and a sail in motion. The crystal was made to coincide with the Tall Ships event in Waterford City. Likewise, the Times Square Ball has been a regular fare every New Year’s Eve. Interestingly, the Waterford ball was introduced in the last moments of the twentieth century. Waterford also created another masterpiece, the 9/11 Waterford Crystal Sculpture, in honor of the New York Fire Department firemen who lost their lives during that fateful day. The sculpture is a timeless recognition to the gallantry of the men, who are forever etched not only in this Waterford work, but in the hearts of a country in deep gratitude.

120 Years More

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:00:40 AM in Wellendorff (40)

According to the Bible, God promises every human being 120 years of life. This extraordinary promise is recorded in Genesis 6:3, which reads as follows: “And the Lord said, my spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh, yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.”

One hundred twenty years is such a long time to live, but not long enough for a jewelry brand to work with the best and most precious materials such as gold and diamonds, taking on the best goldsmiths and specialists and putting the best tools in their hands. That’s why, after 120 years of its foundation, Wellendorff continues to inevitably provide the best and finest jewelry in the world that will thrill even the most discriminating jewelry connoisseur. Since the beginnings of the label, the founder of Wellendorff, Ernst Alexander Wellendorff, appreciated the meaning of true values and the family which is now leading the success-brand in fourth generation stayed true to those values.

The Force of Ball Watch

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:00:00 AM in Ball Watch (34)

Shock resistant is a common mark stamped on the back of wrist watches to indicate how well a watch copes with mechanical shocks. In a mechanical watch, it indicates that the delicate pivots that hold the balance wheel are mounted in a spring suspension system intended to protect them from damage if the watch is dropped. Shock resistance is delicately connected with G force -- the pulling of objects toward Earth by gravity. G force is just a measurement of acceleration. The force of gravity when you sit, stand or lie down is considered 1 G. In normal activity, we rarely experience anything other than 1 G. As you pull more Gs, your weight increases correspondingly. A 10-pound human head will weigh 90 pounds when he pulls 9 Gs.

At Ball Watch, with the Official Railroad Watch Collection, your ”60 Second” watch is protected up to 5,000Gs. Not to mention that it has an automatic caliber ETA 2836-2, 15 micro gas tubes on hour, minute, second hands and dial for night reading capability, 50m water resistance, stainless steel and anti-reflective convex sapphire crystal.

The Premier among the Finest

Posted by Schiffman's at 10:30:00 AM in Tissot (38)

The Tissot Company are founded by father and son tandem, Charles  Felicien Tissot  and his son, Charles Emile Tissot. What makes them exemplary among the pioneer in watch making is their attitude and vision of foresight. The father and son tandem successfully introduce their first watches in 1853. They were the first watch company that mass-produced the famous pocket watches during their era. The Tissot son traveled to Russia and succeeded in selling their Savonnette pocket watches. The Russians loved the portability and handiness of the pocket watch. It became a standard status of sorts.

In the late nineteenth twenty's to the thirty's, Tissot introduced the first anti-magnetic watch. It was an instant hit among the aristocrat. A remarkable feat worth remembering. Not contented with reinventing itself, the company created the first plastic watch in 1971. It accorded an affordability of watches yet with fine taste and quality. Perhaps innovation is an inherent character of the Tissot, they created the first granite Rock watch in 1985 and later introduced the first Pearl watch of the world. Eventually, the first watch made of wood was invented by the same company. This is perhaps the only watch company that garnered the first among the numerous first in innovation.

Art imitates nature

Posted by Schiffman's at 10:00:00 AM in Annieglass (33)

The dew drops are about to slide down the petal’s delicate, slender surface. Or so it seems; the dew drops and flower are hard as glass, the Annieglass Dew Drops collection. Are they food servers? Plates? Saucers? Or are they accents to add glamour to a dining set? However you see it, the Annieglass Dew Drops line is art glass rendered to perfection. The curves are randomly molded to imitate nature’s ever-shifting shapes. The translucence is deep, akin to looking down at an underwater abyss that seems to go on forever.  While the Annieglass Dew Drops item can impress any guest by itself, collecting the whole line and setting them together is as well striking. It is hard to digest a beautiful piece like this can exist for a utilitarian purpose.

Fairies in Wood

Posted by Schiffman's at 10:20:30 AM in Beatriz Ball Collection (31)

The foundry in Mexico has produced one of the best in metal wares that are both art masterpieces and utilitarian table set items. It has given discerning collectors and hosts who demand the best in dinnerware: the Beatriz Ball, including its forest-themed pieces. They are rustic as they exude class. Literally an irony of metal that imitates wood patterns. The Beatriz Ball Forest line complements a garden breakfast or an outdoor lunch, even an afternoon tea break at the park. The forest bowl is alluringly natural despite the Beatriz signature of quality metal and its plate and spreader pair conveys chameleon-like characteristics, disappearing in a wooded background if not for their Beatriz luminosity. Collect the Beatriz Ball forest items now, including trays, frames and ladles.

The Difference Between Good and Great

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:00:00 AM in Suna Bros (36)

The difference between mediocrity and excellence, between good and great, is attention to details. Close attention to detail is a necessary part to completing many tasks and projects. Whether you are assembling a bookcase at home or tabulating employee time sheets at work, the ability to concentrate on important details is essential for achieving greater success in life. As consumers of essentials, as well as luxuries of life, we have become fairly accustomed to what we can reasonably expect out of a product. We know the brands that did their assignments, and we know those that did not – but surely, Suna Bros. did theirs.

It is their attention to detail that separates Suna Bros. from their competitors. Their jewelry falls into several different categories. One would be very high end, expensive, very heavily diamond oriented pieces. In that category, Suna Bros. is outstanding. Their other line includes designer collections that competes with other designers and manufacturers. While other companies may have a great look, unfortunately they don’t have Suna Bros.’ depth of manufacturing experience.

Sister Power

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:00:00 AM in Slane (32)

Your sister at one time or another may have been your most formidable opponent. And yes, you’ve had your share of fights growing up. They might take your stuff without asking, throw tantrums, embarrass you in front of other people, read your personal messages, and nag you until they get what they want, even if it takes years. Regardless, a sister is a precious gift. She is part of a sibling relationship that provides the other sibling with friendship, companionship and a sense of security.

But two sisters have amped this relationship to an even greater level. A love of nature, architecture, history and the arts inspired sisters Heath and Landon Slane to begin designing jewelry in 1997. Building on their relationship, Heath and Landon continue to design (15 Years after founding Slane Fine Jewelry) a palette of shapes and textures that can be built upon year after year, allowing each Slane collector to create her own look and story – providing an array of jewelries that are perfect ways to let you sister know how much she means to you and how much you appreciate all that she does.

Something Blue and Beautiful

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:00:00 AM in Roberto Coin (42)

Something Blue is a phrase derived from a saying about the items a bride should carry or wear on her wedding day for good luck -- something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in her shoe. The third of the five items or "Something Borrowed" represents borrowed happiness. Some brides use a borrowed item from a long-time happily married couple for this item, but it can also be something borrowed from a friend or other relative who is symbolic of happiness. The borrowed item should be returned to the owner following the wedding day.

Roberto Coin, in celebration of the wedding season offers a medley of easy, effortless and elegant jewelry – perfect for your engagement, pre-wedding, wedding, and after-wedding ceremonies. But don’t forget the bridesmaids! Choose a Tiny Treasure for each of your bridesmaids, and let one of Roberto Coin’s striking baubles be your ‘Something Blue.’

Amazing illusion

Posted by Schiffman's at 12:00:00 PM in Grainger McKoy (37)

The sculptor weaves his magic. He puts basswood, walnut, metal and oil paint in the cauldron, casts a spell of his workmanship earned from years of mastering wood carving and painting, and voila! The Grainger McKoy Least Bittern wood art comes to life. If you’ve seen elegantly sculpted wood art before, the Least Bittern will elevate your concept of a masterpiece in wood sculpture. It creates an illusion of a mirrored bird looking down at clear, glassy, serene water. The mirror birds are carved in perfect symmetry, making people take a second look if it is three-dimensional or a photograph in front of them. The sculpture is unmatched; if there is one thing that will challenge it for your attention, it is the depth of the paint. The shades, hues and tones are in the right places. The bittern itself appears mesmerized.

Porcelain vs. china

Posted by Schiffman's at 10:00:00 AM in Gien (34)

Porcelain and china are often interchanged, but technically they are different types of ceramics. For one, china is softer and can be cut by a file, allowing china artisans more room for better molding and artistic rendition. Likewise, while porcelain is translucent, china is opaque, giving it a rather classy and timeless undertone. Like a Gien china. It looks fragile, yet it’s dishwasher and microwave safe. It’s as utilitarian as for everyday use, as it is an elegant set for dining with guests. Interestingly, the Gien china is inspired by the Bauhaus architecture, the theme used by designer Ulrich Raupach. From plates to chargers, tea cups to coffee sets, a complete Gien china line creates an elegant table set for any occasion, either formal or casual.

The Rhythm of a Watch

Posted by Schiffman's at 10:00:00 AM in Raymond Weil (38)

When Raymond Weil decided to join the Swiss watch making company, Camy Watch S.A., he had a pertinent and persistent vision for independence. Flaming with ardent devotion to the craft and unqualified leadership, he was able to take over of the company's leadership and eventually became the manager of the company for approximately twenty six years. Nonetheless, he never forgot his ambition to create his very own watch company. It was on the year 1976 that Raymond Weil became a name for itself. Embarking on a future where it arose out of crises and adversity, it became a famous brand until the present. Coupled with enthusiasm and his vast experience in the watch industry, he began to explore the wider Europe just to get a glimpse of what are the prevailing fashion, behavior and social attitude of people relative to the essence of time and its object, the watch.

Raymond Weil believes that in riding with the flow of fashion and with the anticipation of the need, he could create a watch that could perfectly fit the sense and character of a person. Embodying upon these ideals, he tapped the expertise of his son-in-law, Oliver Bernheim in 1982.

Full of dynamism and vision, Oliver restructured, developed and ensured a sustainable growth in the international market while preserving the watch of its family identity. He created an impact by establishing a significant brand expansion, which introduce novel creations which are sophisticated mechanical timepieces. It developed entry level collections which has a wider range of communication strategy.

Adhering family tradition, the sons of Oliver Bernheim eventually joined the company which solidifies the brand renown for its class and luxury. Elie and Pierre Bernheim were music enthusiast as proteges of their mother's passion.

The siblings dual entry in the company made significant changes especially in brand development and marketing by tapping the social networking sites. It eventually made a niche in the internet industry that made the Raymond Weil's collection of watches a solid brand to contend with.

A watch made from Raymond Weil, individually crafted, imbued with inspiration and idealism is reflective of its iconic resemblance to independence! Inspired by family values of cooperation and coherence in taste, it is truly a beauty of luxury. Immensely developed by modern standards and created for adaptation, this work of art can be worn as an emblem of character. The aristocratic finesse in very watch captivates an aura of elegance and command.

The introduction of the new lines of collection of watches allowed the market to have variant choices dependent on their taste and character. The musically themed watches, the Amadeus, named after the great Mozart, paved the way for another musically themed watch, the Fidelio. The Fidelio is named after Beethoven's only opera, the watch was designed in a more subtle details. The elegance of the collection is under the guise of duality and liberty, its a mixture of skillfully interlaced satin finish and polished gold plated bracelet links, an interplay of shiny and matt contrast on the case. A brilliant presentation of irresistible double play.

The Othello Collection which was offered to the public as a blend of avant-garde technology and refined design. The ultra thin timepiece (1.2mm) played a great part in the worldwide success of its brand due to its technical construction and prowess, and its distinctive symbolism on creative audacity and an appeal of individuality.

In 1988, another spectacular product was launched, the Traviata collection. It broke down traditional aesthetic criteria in watch making, exemplifying a projection in the Raymond Weil's brand, a bold yet tastefully refined innovator. This new innovation elevates the company to a higher pedestal of creativity and quality. Its aggressive, consistent display of creative innovation with elegant taste captured the market. Combining it with their advertising prowess, it projected an image of association in water, earth and fire. The essential elements of man's survival. This creates an adventurous attitude cloaked in every watch collection; eager to go beyond though beyond is nothing but yonder.

Raymond Weil has shown to the world that this company is capable of reinventing itself to suit the ever-changing taste of modern man. It has the character to adapt to market climates, the attitude to immerse in the society and come up with a creation suited for individuality. A brand that understands not only the ever changing society but the person itself. It is willing to go further and speculate on the actual needs of man. It created an emblem, flourished and nourished by family values and tradition. It touches the heart of every need, because a need is always based on a familial tendency. These watch collections are an embodiment of every familial reflection, in character, attitude and family connections. Only moments of time could only determine the relevance and importance of family values, only in a watch created by Raymond Weil.Come see Raymond Weil Collections at Schiffman's at Friendly Center.

The Ultimate Lullaby

Posted by Schiffman's at 10:00:00 AM in Philip Stein (33)

Who never heard of a lullaby? Most of us freaked out as a child in order to control our sleepiness whenever our mom started to sing one. A lullaby is a soothing song, usually sung to young children before they go to sleep, with the intention of speeding that process. As a result they are often simple and repetitive. Lullabies can be found in every culture and since the ancient period. Since time immemorial, every culture has sung lullabies to answer one of humans’ most basic necessities; the necessity of sleep.

It may seem obvious that sleep is beneficial. Even without fully grasping what sleep does for us, we know that going without sleep for too long makes us feel terrible, and that getting a good night's sleep can make us feel ready to take on the world.

Scientists have gone to great lengths to fully understand sleep's benefits. In studies of humans and other animals, they have discovered that sleep plays a critical role in immune function, metabolism, memory, learning, and other vital functions. However, low-quality sleep and sleep deprivation also negatively impact mood, which has consequences for learning. Alterations in mood affect our ability to acquire new information and subsequently to remember that information. Although chronic sleep deprivation affects different individuals in a variety of ways, it is clear that a good night’s rest has a strong impact on learning and memory.

A good night sleep has numerous positive effects in human life while sleep deprivation greatly affects human life in so many negative ways. And although not a pharmaceutical company, Philip Stein looks after you and it wants you to be well taken care of. Philip Stein is about enhancing people’s quality of life around the world through its Natural Frequency Technology. It is the shared stories and experiences the company hears from the community that have led Philip Stein to where it is today, and inspire it to look towards the future.

Philip Stein feels it is its obligation to continue the research, and is committed to understanding all the benefits of wearing Philip Stein. Say goodbye to your insomnia and broken sleep nights and say hello to a comfy good night sleep with Philip Stein Sleep Bracelet.

Primarily designed and developed for use at night time, the Philip Stein Sleep Bracelet is equipped with Natural Frequency Technology, a technology that follows the rules of Natural Law and based on frequencies beneficial to life and over all well-being. Also called as Schumann resonance, the prominent frequency is the earth’s frequency, wherein every system, organ, tissue, cell, and molecule of the human body vibrates within a certain range of frequency and each one has an ‘ideal’ frequency, called Harmonic Resonance Frequency (HRF). All Natural Law products contain natural elements which have been embedded with a combination of natural frequencies which help to reset the body against high frequency pollution, to its ideal HRF. It is like tuning a music instrument that has been out of tune.

Fashioned with hypo-allergenic micro-fiber band that is ultra-soft and skin friendly, Philip Stein Sleep Bracelet is intended to have its wearer a holistic benefit. The band’s perforated holes make the skin breathe and quick release mechanism makes interchanging bands a simple task. Also, the proprietary Natural Frequency Technology inside the Philip Stein Sleep Bracelet is tuned to pick up natural frequencies that are believed to improve your quality of sleep. Comfort and health on a bracelet, that is.

Intended to be worn before going to bed, Philip Stein Bracelet can be worn on either right or left wrist. Once you wear it, you are guaranteed to have a comfortable good night sleep and a stress-free morning wake up. Active, radiant and glowing, you are ready to take on any challenge of the day.

Just Like Her

Posted by Schiffman's at 7:00:10 AM in Pandora Jewelry (35)

Paco Underhill, in his book, Call of the Mall, said that jewelry has traditionally been purchased by men for women for one of three reasons: one, as public statements of affection and intention, two, as a means to ensure access but bypass all the front-door commitments, and three, to make amends for bad behavior. Well, nothing says “Dear, I am so sorry!” like a fine necklace or a pair of diamond earrings, right? For many guys, though, buying jewelry for a woman is intimidating and discouraging – one has to find the right jewelry that speaks directly to her personal states, with symbolism that is not ready to pop men like land mines if they’re not careful.

The extensive range of Pandora Jewelry is just the treasury of gift ideas – for all women and occasions – that all men need. With charms, bracelets, rings, earrings, watches, necklaces and pendants, your lady love can keep expanding her Pandora collection with everlasting moments to match her style, and the combinations are endless. Pandora jewelry will make the perfect gift for someone you care about – it is unique and special, just like her!

Not your kind of candlesticks

Posted by Schiffman's at 12:00:00 PM in Kosta Boda (30)

Think candlesticks and bronze, silver, pewter and brass come to mind. But think Kosta Boda candlesticks and you are in for a real treat. Elegantly crafted in the Kosta Boda art glass tradition, these candlesticks literally add glow to a romantic dinner or a quiet corner. Watch the light explores the depths of the Kosta Boda translucence and explodes in subtle bursts and multi-facets of colors. The Cool collection designed by Kjell Engman is an irony in substance; the candle creates fire as its stick mirrors a gleaming liquid. On the other hand, the Hills collection by Jacob Solgren uses pastel and stresses the palette with relaxing gradients. The result is almost spellbinding, tricking your senses into a trip down the fantasy lane.

“Faster, Higher, Stronger”—the Olympics summarizes its history with only three but powerful words. The Olympic Games are considered to be the world's foremost sports competition with more than 200 nations participating. The Olympic Games are held every four years, with the Summer and Winter Games alternating, meaning they each occur every four years but two years apart. Their creation was inspired by the ancient Olympic Games, which were held in Olympia, Greece, from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD.

Since, the Olympics has given birth to the mightiest and strongest athletes in the universe, a dream arena for the champions yet unborn. It is the ultimate test of every athlete, who claims to be the best. A battle of the flesh and combat of spirits where only the fastest, the highest and the strongest emerge as winners. Every step taken, time is of the essence. No effort is wasted, no movement escapes, all is counted because Omega is watching very closely.

As the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games, Omega has seen so many champions and two of these champs are legends in their own game, Usain Bolt in track in field and Michael Phelps in swimming.

Usain St. Leo Bolt is a Jamaican sprinter widely regarded as the fastest person ever. He is the first man to hold both the 100 meters and 200 meters world records since fully automatic time measurements became mandatory in 1977. Along with his teammates, he also set the world record in the 4×100 meters relay. He is the reigning Olympic champion in these three events, the first man to win six Olympic gold medals in sprinting, and a five-time World champion. He is considered to be the greatest athlete ever.

Michael Phelps, on the other hand, is a retired American swimmer and the most decorated Olympian of all time, with a total of 22 medals. Phelps also holds the all-time records for Olympic gold medals (18, double the second highest record holders),Olympic gold medals in individual events (11), and Olympic medals in individual events for a male (13). In winning eight gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Games, Phelps took the record for the most first-place finishes at any single Olympic Games. Five of those victories were in individual events, tying the single Games record. Phelps is the long course world record holder in the 100-meter butterfly, 200-meter butterfly and 400-meter individual medley as well as the former long course world record holder in the 200-meter freestyle and 200-meter individual medley.

For both of these record holders, nothing is more essential than time, and for the record, Bolt and Phelps give the merits to the Omega Olympic Pocket Watch 1932 Rattrapante Chronograph.

Stamped on the case back is the official five-ring logo of the Olympic Games, Swiss made and only 300 pieces made, the historic movement is housed in an 18 Ct yellow, white or red gold watchcase of 100 of each, the white enamel dial is a faithful replica of the original 1932 design. The case back opens to reveal the movement, protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. Powered by the Omega calibe3 3889A, a high performance movement with an advanced Rattrapante chronograph mechanism controlled by a double column wheel, the Omega Limited Edition Pocket Watch 1932’s 53.7 mm movement is assembled from restored and enhanced components at 36, 000 alterations per hour, allowing measurements accurate to 1/10th of a second and is certified as a chronometer by COSC. The title Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games and the words Limited Edition are engraved on the case back, along with the edition number of each piece: (001/100) for each of the 18 Ct yellow, white and red gold editions.

Extraordinary as the Olympics, the OMEGA Olympic Pocket Watch 1932 Rattrapante Chronograph is a great history of countless victories and celebration of lives that have been part of its greatness. It is also a narration of mechanical horology with Swiss craftsmanship and the most contemporary watch making technologies. Indeed, the OMEGA Olympic Pocket Watch 1932 Rattrapante Chronograph is the greatest symbolism of friendship and brotherhood not only of the fastest, highest and strongest athletes but also of the International Olympic Committee and the brand that made the Olympic history possible—Omega.

Forget the champagne, it’s the glass

Posted by Schiffman's at 9:00:00 AM in Juliska (36)

I half suspect that when you serve wine or liquor, the alcohol is twice made remarkable not by its age, brewing technique or variety, but by the glass that it is served in. Especially if it is a Juliska. Regarded for its perfection of European art glass, Juliska offers a full range of glassware that is at once utilitarian and masterpieces. The Juliska champagne and martini line is an example. Your mind wanders not where the champagne is made, but who created the flute. The Juliska glassware is adorned with translucent swirls that seem to play with champagne bubbles. The same feel is applied on a Juliska ice bucket. Meantime, the martini glass is vintage and stylish. The stem is animated with fine etches reminiscent of a Corinthian pillar, and the slender, narrowing stem makes the whole glass alluring and teasingly sensual. Juliska can really make you forget about the champagne.

The New Italy

Posted by Schiffman's at 7:00:00 AM in Mikimoto (43)

Milano or Milan (as the foreigners call it) is the capital of Lombardy in northern Italy and has been an international center of trade and industry since the Middle Ages.  If you spend time strolling through less well known areas such as the pretty Navigli, the chic Brera district, the lively University quarter, or some of the smaller churches and buildings, you'll find a forward thinking, diverse city filled in every corner with history, and with a plethora of hidden gems.  But most especially, Milan is the fashion capital of Italy, so it shouldn’t be surprising that there is a great collection by Mikimoto, honoring this great city.

Mikimoto’s Milano Collection by Giovanna Broggian combines the craftsmanship and sophistication of Italian design with the highest quality cultured pearls in the world. The pearls in the Milano Collection are truly the focal point of the jewelry piece, thanks to an exclusive spring tension system that holds them in place.

The Perfect I Love You

Posted by Schiffman's at 7:30:00 AM in Mémoire (37)

"I love you."  That one little statement can mean so much.  If you ask most people, they'll likely tell you that it stands as a sign of true long-term devotion and that men are much more hesitant to say it. It is important to say I love you because it is reassuring. As humans we all have vulnerabilities, especially when it comes to the way we perceive how others feel about us. Although many people use this powerful phrase loosely, there are times when you want to say "I love you" in a meaningful way and not sound awkward or mawkish.

Whether you're professing your love to a romantic partner or expressing it to a relative or friend, Mémoire Diamonds are for you. Classic, timeless, and elegant, Mémoire offers the finest in engagement, wedding, and anniversary bands. Mémoire also offers the perfect “I Love You” diamond bands to surprise your loved one with, or to buy for yourself. Mémoire bands are designed with passion and with fortitude, and will never go out of style.

Vine in motion

Posted by Schiffman's at 7:00:30 AM in Michael Aram (36)

Renowned for its artistic and functionally sturdy metal craft, Michael Aram takes its workmanship even higher with its Vine collection. The signature line tension and solid form of the metal ware are evident in the theme, but they are made more impressive with the unpredictable twisting of the design to capture a natural flora movement. The cake server, in nickel plate and stainless steel, is rendered with an intricately twisting vine as handle. The same detailed work is seen in the Vine Trivet, where the leaves appear to “fly in the wind.” How a utilitarian piece as trivets is transformed into a high form of sculpted work, only a Michael Aram can accomplish. The trivet is available in large and small versions.

Cupid figurine

Posted by Schiffman's at 7:00:00 AM in Lladro (32)

The signature is known for finely hand crafted porcelain figurines. And when you see the serenity and mystic in its Legend collection, you will agree, indeed, Lladro is all about the best in porcelain art. The Cupid figurines are nothing short of a collectible, the wing boy’s innocent postures are captured in a charmed innocence. Whether he’s reading a book, playing with a dove or quietly embracing a heart figurine, the Lladro cupid figurine tugs at your inner child. He is also crafted in his much younger years, a baby in sleep in his cloud bed. The golden wings add the perfect accent to the graceful porcelain line so delicate that it makes the Cupid almost real. His hair appears to move with his posture, creating a magical aura around the figurine and the place in your living room.

Check for Checker Cut Stones

Posted by Schiffman's at 7:00:00 AM in Metalsmiths Sterling (34)

From being rough and unattractive, the natural uncut gem stones, are made pretty with the creativity in stone-cutting. One of the most fabulous and attractive cuts is the checkerboard cut which is a technique where the gem stone is cut into a multitude of square facets spaced regularly around the stones surface, giving a 'Checkerboard' effect of light and dark squares when moved in the light. Faceting is what creates the most dazzle in gemstone jewelry, but if you chose a piece with checkerboard gem cuts, you are going to be wearing something extra special! Checker cut stones are an escape from the everyday, with its interesting emphasis on the crown of the gem, adding that little extra “pop” to your wardrobe.

At Metalsmiths Sterling, checker cut stones in intense and exotic stones create the focus point of its Marquise Collection – a collection of show-stopping works of art. Bold and elegant, the Marquise Collection demands attention, as it is a perfectly glamorous jewelry for those who dare to dream of drama.

All aboard!

Posted by Schiffman's at 12:00:00 PM in Mottahedeh (32)

It is being patriotic in style. The United States flag waving in nineteenth-century frigates and cutters, the age of American industrial might coming to fore. The white sails taken by wind across the blue waves. It is the overall theme of the Mottahedeh American Ships collection. The theme offers a range for dinnerware items, from pitchers to dishes, trays to bowls and plates to jugs. It is a good way to greet you in the morning, the ships off to sail, a subtle message that today is a new day to explore possibilities. There is a positive air the ship theme exudes that teases you to collect them all; not the least that Mottahedeh porcelain is always clear and blemish-free with complex designs while remaining thin and light.

Don't send them to jail!

Posted by Schiffman's at 12:00:00 PM in Ne'Qwa (32)

Is it Christmas yet? My first grader kept asking. Not yet, I said. You just have to wait for six more months. “But that’s too long!” he said. I asked why he’d want it to be Christmas now; it turned out he got his prying hands on my box of Ne'Qwa Christmas set that I tucked in the attic after the holidays. The 12 Days of Christmas by Susan Winget is my first Ne'Qwa collection. I was drawn to the hand-painted glass art when my friend showed me her Ne'Qwa collection, from wine stoppers to the delicately looking but stunning vases. I fell in love with the depth of the art as it touches the virgin glass, and I knew a Ne'Qwa would find its way to our home. I thought buying a Ne'Qwa is a big deal for me, and what better way to remind myself of my first love with glass art than buying the Christmas set. I thought every after eleven months, I’d be opening this set and it would send me back to my first Ne'Qwa encounter.  Apparently, I might not wait for the whole year. My kid put the glass balls out in mid-summer and wouldn’t want me to “imprison” them again.

The Good Old Brand

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:10:15 AM in Wellendorff (40)

MacBooks and Samsung Galaxy Android phones are evidences to prove our goodbye to the good old days of our traditional means and methods of communication and recreation and these are also proofs of our hello to the flying-car-near-future. How mind boggling and spine thrilling to think to see Audis and BMWs take flight with Piper and Cessna turbo props. But to reminisce running across the golden hay fields and feeling the warm breeze touching your face during the summer in the farm is heartwarming. The new and modern things awaken our curiosity but the good old days still captivate our hearts. Like our good old days, we love good old brands.

Wellendorff is a good old brand family-owned German manufacturer of luxury jewelry headquartered in Pforzheim, Baden Württemberg. Established in Pforzheim in 1893 by the founder Ernst Alexander Wellendorff, Wellendorff became famous for its rope necklace and colored spinning rings, known today as the brand’s classic pieces.

The story began after good old Wellendorff studied at the Grand Duchy of Baden Arts College in Pforzheim, graduating with flying colors. The propinquity to Baden-Baden, where German nobility and the international aristocracy gathered to take the waters, played a part in the rapid rise of this self-employed designer and goldsmith. His excellent goldsmith work and artistic skills soon brought him to the attention of clients in Russia and England.

After the company was totally destroyed in the Second World War, Ernst’s son,  Alex Wellendorff, rebuilt the company. Hanspeter Wellendorff (son of Dr. Alex Wellendorff and grandson of Ernst Alexander) became the company’s managing director in 1960.

Since then, Wellendorff has become one of the world’s most successful jewelry companies. Known for its world class craftsmanship and design, Wellendorff only uses the finest materials to create the jewelry of perfect balance of German culture and genuine family values. Ernst Alexander Wellendorff was firm in emphasizing the importance of family among others. Because of that, Wellendorff is currently run by his great-great grandchildren and still a family-owned company.

Genuine family values and timeless craftsmanship passed down from generation to generation of unbroken family link is what makes Wellendorff pieces an iconic symbol of the highest quality bestowed in jewelry. Standards of excellence and state of the art manufacturing techniques and technology constantly developed to keep up with the fast changing global demands while remaining faithful with the traditional German family ties. The “W” crowned with a diamond is the company’s official logo which also symbolizes the highest quality of goldsmith skills.

Ernst Alexander Wellendorff once said that “[w]hen one is working with the best and most precious materials such as gold and diamonds, taking on the best goldsmiths and specialists and putting the best tools in their hands, it is almost inevitable that one will get the best and finest jewelry in the world that will thrill even the most discriminating jewelry connoisseur.” That’s why the Wellendorff family remained true to this principle and will not falter in providing honest quality products to customers all over the world bringing to them the German jewelry experience.

As family bond and values are important to Wellendorff, the wearer should feel comfortable and secure when a Wellendorff piece is worn like how one should feel when she’s with her family. The sense of security and belongingness that is felt by the heart through the comfort given by the jewelry itself is why the Wellendorff family works hand in hand, coordinating and incorporating ideas and concepts that are surely original and universal.

And since Wellendorff is strict and straightforward when it comes to quality and standards, there are only few selected authorized dealers and jewelers where Wellendorff allows its luxury items to be put up on sale. One of these chosen few is Schiffman’s. Have your own personal German jewelry experience at Schiffman’s at Friendly Center. Friendly staff and expert jewelers are happy to welcome, to serve and to entertain your inquiries and concerns regarding any of their items. Schiffman’s is an empowered dealer for Wellendorff.

Beat the Record with Tissot T-Race

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:00:00 AM in Tissot (38)

Before the 1970s, the topic of women in history was largely missing from general public consciousness. Long before that, Napoleon Bonaparte famously declared that women are nothing but “machines for producing children.” But times have changed. What have been impossible before have become possible now – like say, a woman who could win a race in the IndyCar Series.

In 2005, Danica raced at the prestigious Indianapolis 500-mile race where she came a sensational fourth. That race went down in history as she became the first woman ever to lead a lap of the Indy 500 – beating her personal record in 2009 by reaching the third position. She has beaten many records over the years and will continue to strive in her new NASCAR challenge next season.

Like the athlete the watch honors, Tissot T-Race Danica Patrick 2012 limited edition watch by Tissot is not just a pretty face and will leave everyone speechless at its performance and style – the watch combines sophistication to robustness and precision, giving this timepiece a distinctive look and an incredible charm. Life in Africa

Posted by Schiffman's at 12:15:10 PM in Lladro (32)

The African kid’s eyes are locked into something. You just cannot figure out yet, but it can be something that caught her attention in her remote village. She is dressed in a beautifully woven cloth that is etched with simple strokes that may signify her status or position in the tribe. She is relaxed, you know, the way she delicately handles a walking stick made from good wood. It’s an everyday picture in a remote African village, and, amazingly, all it takes for you to see the whole scene is a single Lladro porcelain figurine depicting the African child. Such is the intense and detailed work of the Lladro Pulse of Africa collection that each figurine creates a story, if only in your imagination. The collection, made from handcrafted high porcelain, has more than ten items reflecting the African village life.

Poor cake

Posted by Schiffman's at 12:00:00 PM in Michael Aram (36)

The cake was supposed to be the grand finale of my birthday bash with friends. I am proud of my pastry progress, from a novice cake maker to a somewhat pastry chef by now. The fondant was flawless, without cracks or tangles. I created a fantasy theme with fairies that were intricately sculpted to depict myself and my friends. Excited to show them my masterpiece on my day, I made one big mistake: I served it on a Michael Aram. My friends, of course, did talk about the cake. For five minutes. The rest of the night, they were marveling at the elegance of the cake stand’s black granite and nickelplate. I showed them my other Michael Aram cake serving items—the Bamboo and New Molten line—and my cake didn’t get a grain of a chance to get my friends’ attention.

Rare art

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:00:00 AM in Kosta Boda (30)

Bowls and vases become gallery artworks with Kosta Boda. The slender, unpredictable curves of the Aria collection are classic Kosta Boda. Designed by Goran Warff, the bowls seem to be shaped by the wind. The colors are deeply imbued in the glass, creating a rare inner glow that is a Kosta Boda signature. The same artistry is rendered in the Bali vases. The shapes are abstracted, the gradient hues interplaying with the light that you cannot distinguish where the color ends and the light starts. The Cabana glassware is urban art at its height. Modern and sophisticated, it mesmerizes even the most indifferent set of eyes. The Charms, likewise, is a continuous liquid flow frozen into a glass, or so it appears. It’s a beauty not seen every day. It is rare and it is Kosta Boda.

Original is (Not) Overrated

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:00:00 AM in Swiss Army (38)

In a world full of reproductions, watered-down visions, and genuine fakes, being original is a scarcity. Yes, originality takes time, thought and effort; but it is more satisfying to be original because of the sense of accomplishment you get from it. Being original is being unique, the only one of its kind. Whether it is true with jewelries, people, or DVDs, the original is always so much more vivid, more alive than any reproductions you will ever see. So why not go with the original?

Victorinox Swiss Army, maker of the Original Swiss Army Knife, has always been a lover of originals. In fact, in 1989 it released a timepiece called the “Original,” which is still made and sold today with a newer, updated version. Being Swiss Army’s new entry level offering, the Original offers its wearer a brushed aluminum bezel for a trendy touch. The secondhand is adorned with a delicate touch of orange, with the strap being a stylish two-piece leather or three-piece strap, for a completely new look. Not bad for being Original.

Suna’s Delightful Hue

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:00:00 AM in Suna Bros (36)

Perfection is inherently not in our DNA. Nature has its way of keeping that balance of having that nice and not so nice traits in every DNA make up in the human body. But not all “not so nice” traits result in ugly features. Sometimes, they are in fact our best assets. Our impurities make us different from others and what others don’t have that we have is more valuable than what we and others also have. Like humans, diamonds appear in different hues. The most expensive stone is graded basing on its impurities; according to its color is where value is determined.

Diamonds occur in a variety of colors — steel gray, white, blue, yellow, orange, red, green, pink to purple, brown, and black. Colored diamonds contain interstitial impurities or structural defects that cause the coloration, whilst pure diamonds are perfectly transparent and colorless. Diamonds are scientifically classed into two main types and several subtypes, according to the nature of impurities present and how these impurities affect light absorption.

A chemically pure and structurally perfect diamond is perfectly transparent with no hue, or color. However, in reality almost no gem-sized natural diamonds are absolutely perfect. The color of a diamond may be affected by chemical impurities and/or structural defects in the crystal lattice. Depending on the hue and intensity of a diamond's coloration, a diamond's color can either detract from or enhance its value. For example, most white diamonds are discounted in price when more yellow hue is detectable, while intense pink or blue diamond can be dramatically more valuable.

Fancy diamonds are valued using different criteria than those used for regular diamonds. When the color is rare, the more intensely colored a diamond is the more valuable it becomes. Another factor that affects the value of Fancy-Colored diamonds is fashion trends. For example, pink diamonds fetched higher prices after Jennifer Lopez received a pink diamond engagement ring.

And for all we know it, there could only be one place in the world where the best pink diamonds reside. Suna Bros. The foremost identity of the company and its legacy is beyond doubt pink diamonds. Headed by Joel and Kenneth Suna who were trained as gemologists and diamond setters, these precious stones are extracted from the Argyle Diamond Mine in the remote East Kimberly region of Australia. In apricot hues, true pinks, purplish pinks and rarely red. In 2000, the Argyle Diamond Mine produced around 40 million carats of diamonds a year but only 10,000 carats were pink which makes this diamond color a rare find.

Artistry, skill and craftsmanship—these are cornerstones of every Suna piece. The design concepts are inspired mostly by architectural designs and natural forms, elements needed to transform raw materials into three dimensional exquisitely elegant jewels. Many pieces are first modeled in wax, allowing each detail and texture to be accurately captured. From this wax a silver model is made, and it is this durable object that allows each platinum or 18K gold piece to embody the beauty of the delicate design. Suna sees to it that everything is taken care of its workshop in New York. With skilled craftsmen and artisans, stones are exclusively selected by hand, diamond and colored stones alike are meticulously checked and enhanced to captivate the balance of light and illusion. The stones are then set by hand, ensuring that each one is placed accurately and held securely. Hand cut beneath each stone, the pyramid shaped opening, or a jour, allows light to reach the stone, exhibiting the kind of scintillation that displays a depth of light and fire.

Through the combination of fine materials and hands of highly skilled and specialized individuals, the creation of Suna Bros.' exceptional pieces is inevitable. These creations includes the Special Occasion Collection, Classics in Diamond, Classics in Color, Bridal Collection, Queen Anne’s Lace, Bark and Pink Diamonds are Suna’s finest expressions of luxury, all embedded with the finest materials the world has to offer.

Like pink diamonds, Suna and its craftsmen are rare and magnificent in their own right. The best in their field, Suna and the Suna Bros., together with their trusted dealers like Schiffman’s, want nothing but to give you the jewels beneath the hottest surface of the planet.
Suna pieces are strictly inspected, polished and pre-polished to ensure the gleam and shine that are inherent in each Suna piece’s DNA. Suna trademark and serial number is also bore by every Suna piece, a guaranteed mark of first rate quality piece made by first rate jewelry company.

Add color to your life by giving color to your diamond! Suna’s pink diamonds will surely do the job. Suna collections and pink diamonds are available at Schiffman’s at Friendly Center. Schiffman’s is an authorized dealer for Suna.

Tuscany in Manhattan

How can you have a smooth dining when your eyes are constantly mesmerized by the marbleized patterns of a Firenze plate, the Juliska ceramic collection inspired by the ancient hand-marbleized papers in Florence, Italy? The random swirls of cappuccino tones take you to an al fresco meal under a Tuscan morning sun. The rich caramel tones bring images of a busy Florentine village, an explosion of colors and textures of the villagers’ clothes, the sellers’ stalls and the cobbled stone streets. The unpredictable blue tones invite you to the deep Mediterranean shore; you can almost breathe in the untainted sea breeze. Tuscan hillsides come to life, framed by Italian cypress pine trees in the horizon. Your mood is thrown far away in the open Tuscan field all while having a dinner in the crowded restaurant in the middle of Manhattan.

Snowflakes are falling

The Neiman Marcus sterling vermeil snowflake pendants are classic Orange Howell trademark. The snowflakes were interpreted in either bold or fine linear silver vermeil that connects the user to the design. Is she classy? Maybe bold and daring? Perhaps conservative with a tease wanting to get out? Orange Howell manages to capture these emotions and articulate them into sensitive jewelries. Using precious metals, stoneware, crystal, porcelain, paper and textiles, Orange Howell can come up with unique jewelry art that has graced the displays of high-valued clients, such as the Four Seasons in Whistler, The Ritz-Carlton in Dallas and the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Available in different styles including starfish, vintage star and diamond, the silver vermeil snowflakes are just trickles of what to expect from Orange Howell.

Glassy passion

The company says they make utility glass and glass art. Shown their complete drinking line, I couldn’t figure out which is utility and which is art. I have a crush on glass, and I wanted my dinner room to exude my intimate relationship with this delicate yet strong material. I’d come to Orrefors to complete my drinking set. I’d heard about their Nobel snaps yellow showcasing a detailed sitting kingly African figurine as the glass stem. That’s clearly art, I thought. Choosing from Orrefors “utility” drinking items, such as flutes for champagne, tumblers for liquor and coupe for lady’s cocktails, and especially seeing and feeling the smooth lines of the Orrefors black wine glass, I was struck how utilitarian becomes art in the hands of an Orrefors glassmaker. I started collecting the cylindrical glasses and they’d gone straight to my display cabinet. Next in line, the curvaceous grappa glass and her cousins.

Horse it Up

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:00:00 AM in Roberto Coin (42)

Some 4,000 years ago wild horses were first tamed for domestic use and since then many breeds have been developed. Due to its natural companionship with man in both work and art, the horse easily wins a special seat in history, ranking high marks of honor, reverence and symbolism. Horses are symbols of our understanding which can be strong and powerful, move at speed through all sorts of ideas and jump from one idea across to another. They also generally represent a driving force in our life, strong emotions, and passionate desires. As a symbol of loyalty and devotion; a horse believes completely in his rider. Hexagon Beauties

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:00:00 AM in Slane (32)

It takes thousands and thousands of bee hours, tens of thousands of flights across the meadow, to gather nectar from flower after flower after flower, so it's reasonable to suppose that back at the hive, bees want a tight, secure storage structure that is as simple to build as possible. A honeycomb is that amazing structure that bees stores and build with honey, with every cell a “perfect” hexagon – having all six sides of equal length. Its visually-appealing proportions, "nature"-evoking associations, combined with its outright utilitarian, mathematical functionality makes the hexagon a formidable motif for any commercial or cultural venture.

Taking into account the optical attractiveness of honeycombs and the meanings they represent, sisters Heath and Landon Slane designed a whole new collection called “Honeycomb” that offers a palette of shapes and textures, a collection that best articulates the beauty of the honeycomb. Part of the collection is the Honeycomb Pave Diamond Ring in Sterling Silver that features pave set round diamonds in the center of an octagon shaped sterling silver setting.

Nine times impressive

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:00:15 AM in Grainger McKoy (37)

Even for the untrained eye, the Covey Rise wood artwork of Grainger McKoy reveals at once the depth and detailed focus of the artist. With a historical passion to capture flying birds on wood, Grainger McKoy showcases its mastery of basswood in the Covey Rise piece. The quails are brought to life, expressing realistic muscle constrictions, focused eyes and individual feathers ruffling in the right direction to catch wind and create a lift. The carving is nine times even more impressive when you see nine coveys in flight, each one creating its own motion and momentum. Remarkably, each bird is uniquely marked for a specific age and sex to create a natural setting. Metal and oil paint create a three dimensional touch to the wood, a Grainger McKoy trademark.

Reinvention

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:00:00 AM in Raymond Weil (38)

The world, the industry just keeps changing: there are constantly new versions of software; new formats to deal with; whole new approaches.  Change is inevitable. In fact it may be the only true constant.  Change means reinvention. Re-inventing isn’t optional. If you want to work you have to be perceived as being current. Each time a major shift happens in our lives—leaving a job or a relationship, moving, losing a loved one—we have to take control of who we will become or risk never reaching our full potential – a reinvention that changes the game.

After 20 years of success, Swiss Watch Manufacturer Raymond Weil celebrated the relaunch of its Parsifal Collection in 2010 with great splendor, consolidating its strong identity and distinctive design features. Since its inception, Parsifal has represented the perfect reflection of Raymond Weil’s attachment to tradition, as the inexhaustible source of inspiration. Parsifal is reinventing itself again this year, through three creative new variations, each sublimely elegant and refined. The collection has emerged more contemporary, while still remaining totally faithful to its original aesthetical philosophy.

The Finer Things in Life

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:00:00 AM in Precision Set (38)

The phrase can have different meaning depending on the context. Sometimes “the finer things in life” means the extra things that are more refined than everyday life like an expensive car, wines and food. It can also mean to be what one most values and appreciates in life like swinging at the playground, or eating produce grown from your own garden. But most often than not, it means things that one can be bought in excess of one’s needs – a sweet reward after a long hard day’s work. For why would you not enjoy yourself and live a better life if it makes you more comfortable? It is after all a symbol of your success – if you’re happy with your success, flaunt it!

At Precision Set, the finer things in life are a notch finer. From grand statement pieces to delicate embellishments, each and every piece in the Precision Set Fine Jewelry collection features unparalleled beauty and craftsmanship. Whether purchased for a special occasion or a pampering treat, the exquisite pieces will be something to remember.

An Hour break

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:35:00 AM in Philippe Deshoulieres (32)

The tea evokes a sensual flavor. The aroma is a mix of jasmine and chamomile that play inside your nose. It fills you in and makes your body jerk a little. It is your regular tea; but somehow when poured into a Royal Trianon cup by Philippe Deshoulieres, the tea takes a passionate turn and your senses are heightened. Not that you mind slowly pressing your thin lips on the platinum-rim of the cup as the tea slides down the surface of a Philippe Deshoulieres porcelain. The subtle “tink” you hear as you put the cup down probably causes the slight body jerk, like an octave higher quarter note inserting itself in a music sheet. Be warned: a five-minute morning tea break can easily stretch to one hour using your Philippe Deshoulieres breakfast set.

Uniquely Yours

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:25:00 AM in Pandora Jewelry (35)

We were all born unique – from having a different set of DNA, to having entirely identifiable fingerprints. Much like our physical attributes, we tend to change our personality to fit-in in our respective social groups. Given that just about any girl can wear a skirt, in the end, nobody would want to be just part of the crowd. We, one time or another, would eventually want to be the girl that seems to stand out from the crowd. But how do we become the most unique, amazing, one-of-a-kind, fun person? We can all start by trying or creating something new, or buying things that represent us, or mix and match both to create the thing that best represents the inside, and have it reflected to the outside.

At Pandora Jewelry, nobody can have the same thing as you as Pandora Jewelry is as unique as the woman wearing it. With their leather lariats and fabric strings, Pandora Jewelry provides a perfect opportunity for variety and creation in combination with your imagination and their great collection of charms. Not that it matters, of course, because you are unique!

So What’s the Design?

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:00:00 AM in Philip Stein (33)

There are a lot of definitions for the word “design.” It is so many things, executed in many different ways, but the function is always the same. Sometimes it is a roadmap or a strategic approach for someone to achieve a unique expectation. It is also what sometimes pushes someone to buy one particular thing over another that offers practically the same functions.

Philip Stein, known for its lifestyle products that use proprietary natural frequency technology, offers you the Fruitz Collection – a collection of fun-wearing, colorful, fashion watches that could improve the wellbeing of wearers through natural frequency technology. But what’s the design? – you say.  Everything is in the design. The soft and smooth silicon strap allows the skin to breathe freely, and helps reduce perspiration. The chic second hand parallels the design of a natural frequency wave, while the minute and hour hands depict the leaves of a fruit. The fruit seed indexes glows in the dark. The laser-cut sun burst pattern dial intimates the delightful process of emanating positive energy to the world, which is really what fruits are all about.

Beautiful Above All

Posted by Schiffman's at 12:40:00 PM in Mikimoto (43)

It is sad, but humans have done this time and time again. It’s time to be different, to choose something that resonates above all and beyond what is normal, and to stand-out from mediocrity – which are what exactly Mikimoto did.

The Glory of Sports Time-Keeping

Posted by Schiffman's at 12:00:00 PM in Omega (38)

Humans have always been fascinated with sports since time immemorial. We all know that competitive athletics somehow stirs us at gut level, either as participant or as spectator; and we also know that sports competition spurs trade, political posturing and cultural razzle-dazzle. But more often than not, it is the thirst for justice and equality that fuels this love, nay addiction, of sports. In sports, we expect that the “rules of the game” will be strictly enforced; if not, the spirit of sport becomes a sham. And that’s where sports time-keeping comes in.

Sports timekeeping has been a part of the Omega story for more than a century. The on-going development of new timekeeping and data handling technologies have been an important part of Omega's eighty-year partnership with the International Olympic Committee and the world’s finest athletes and is a defining part of the commitment to measuring, displaying and distributing the great performances at each edition of the Olympic Games.

The Royal Star

Posted by Schiffman's at 8:00:00 AM in Metalsmiths Sterling (34)

Silver, along with Gold are the first identifiable minerals used as vessels of trade. It has been acknowledged that its primary use was for value in exchange for something of necessity. Even the etymological story about Silver has biblical undertones in connotation to the Judas Iscariot famous kiss wherein silver was exchange for the price of betrayal. However, silver, ironically symbolizes purity. It expresses an insinuation of honesty and truthfulness devoid of beguilement. Sterling was a name closely associated with silver, although history cannot categorically pinpoint the exact etymological significance of it. However, sterling is a connotation of strength or strong. A silver sterling is a silver that has undergone the stages of alloy formation. Pure silver is malleable but if combined with other minerals usually a copper, it changes the structure of silver making it strong and sturdy. It allows the silversmiths to create various creations of silver. In the early 18th century, Silver has been used extensively as ornaments of women as part of their jewelry collections. Adornment by women became customary.  Even before the renaissance, silverware is used by royals around the world. It has been closely associated with royalty and elegance. Even the Royal Family of England do maintained its kitchenwares with lots of gold and silver.

Because sterling silver is used as a fact by the royals, this has become a standard for elegance and wealth. The quality of silver has been identified through its famous Hallmarks. Its primary purpose is to indicate the purity of the silver alloy used in the manufacture or hand-crafting of the piece, to identify the silversmith or company that made the piece and the date and/or location of the manufacture or tradesman. A purity standard of 925 or 92.5% is an indication of the purity of an alloy amalgamation between silver and copper or any mineral.

At Metalsmiths Sterling, their silver hallmarks are actually four hallmarks, it’s the stamp of quality and assayer’s mark! In England, the Assayer’s Mark is the stamp of excellence and the quality of silver sterlings.

At Metalsmiths Sterling, they have another hallmark to distinguish a par above the rest with the 925 stamp of their silver. This propagates the assumption that at Metalsmiths Sterling, the quality of purity is a priority because the company believes on the assertion of the level of respect which they deem to treat every valued customer. A sterling silver invokes a moment of truthfulness and if be given as a gift, it symbolizes the giver’s real intentions and affection.  A sterling silver at Metalsmiths Sterling is always a work of art, because its handcrafted personally by expert hands. The personal touch connotes a sincere delivery of expression intended to aggravate the moment of emotions.

Every creation is special, distinct and personal. It reflects the company's level of respect to which they aspire to treat every valued clientele.   Metalsmiths Sterling do have creations with marvelous stones as part of their jewelry collection. Its combination reflects the company's creativity and valuable expertise in arranging, setting other precious stones as to accentuate the beauty of silver.

Anyway, since time immemorial, silver had been used extensively as a rejoinder in setting another standard for the value of silver. It creates a different stage of aura as to let the client gasp in aspiration and exhilaration of excitement and jubilation for finding at last a piece that symbolizes honesty, purity yet regal and royal in form. The complexities of the emotions that befuddled the beholder will be captivated in a chant of bewilderment and satisfaction upon realizing that a Metalsmiths Sterling creation is indeed a work of class and splendor!

The character of silver as malleable represents the company's liberalistic views on modification for progress and foresight. Being creative transcends a notion of liberality in accepting change even without notice. Eventually, every creation at Metalsmiths Sterling will always be a work in progress. The world will always be surprised of its newest creations. Embracing the world’s desire in a form of sterling silver and gift the world, the expression of purity at its purest intentions.

A gift of silver by Metal Smith Sterling is a perfect gift, a manifestation of honesty and purity.

Metalsmiths Sterling collections present classical designs and quality craftsmanship at the right price. They have come up with different creations, namely, the "earth, wind & fire collection," The "Signature Collection," with its timeless classics on rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets and cufflinks.

The "Panos Konidas" collections presents the timeless beauty which carries modern sophistication and unique line of jewelry. Its exquisite designs imbues the reminiscent architecture that forms the ancient great cities of the world while expressing elegance and modernity cues.

Their "Maquise Collection", bold yet elegant demands attention. With its checkered cut stones and intense exotic stones that create a focus point that transfixed the moment of art. Perfectly glamorous for those willing dare to dream the drama it exalts.

The "Ink collection" depicts the exclusive kind of silver jewelry which has edgy inspiration by some noted, brilliant tattoos. A product of modernity. Its bold designs for the bold, confident men and women. Like a good tattoo etched on a silver plating inks the expression of confidence.

Your Thought Counts

Posted by Schiffman's at 7:00:00 AM in Mémoire (37)

We heard of happy ever-after, knight in shining armor and damsel in distress stories, women dreamed once of being in a ball and dance with the prince who fell in love with them right at first sight. Hmmm, but is it only love at first sight that is memorable? Sometimes to walk by again confirms the feeling. First kiss and first dance are two things most important to a woman’s life, two things that require no word to say to know what we’re feeling right at the moment, because by just looking at her eyes, you’ll know the language that only our heart speaks—love is the unspoken universal language. Your love requires no word. Give her the ultimate gesture of love, give her a Mémoire.

Using state of the art engraving and exceptional methods of manufacturing, Mémoire machines are world class and result in a level of quality that is famous throughout the industry. The lasers inscribe messages, names, and dates, personalizing your jewelry with lasting emotions of love. Considered to be one of the finest in the industry, Mémoire’s Petite Prong are two small prongs secure the diamonds, so the diamonds take center stage and sparkle with light. Pétite Prong mountings are made using the hot extrusion process, and then are laser cut for exactness. The hot extrusion process ensures the strongest and safest mounting available today.

Mémoire mountings are made using the hot extrusion process. Before a mounting is cut, the chosen metal is pushed through a tube with enormous force and heat. This pressure eliminates porosity from the metal. The result is platinum or 18K gold mounting that is solid throughout, strong, hard and exceptionally durable. A standard cast mounting starts with liquid metal that is poured into a mold. As the metal cools and hardens, air can be trapped on the inside causing pits and porosity, which could weaken the finished product. Mémoire’s extruded mountings are laser cut for exactness directly from metal that has undergone the hot extrusion process, eliminating this problem.

The process and the metal used should be equally durable since what we sought from Mémoire is the durable expression of our love. Platinum is one of the rarest metals on earth with considerable comparison of 30 times rarer than gold. As rare as it is, Mémoire uses 95% of pure Platinum. As the use Platinum is standard in the industry of fine jewelry, Mémoire has got to be serious in keeping up or shall we say, exceeding the fine jewelry standards when it launched the Purity Collection in 99.9% pure Platinum.

For strength and durability that will hold diamonds and precious stones securely, Platinum is the ideal choice of metal for jewelry. But like all precious metals, platinum scratches. However, the scratch on a platinum piece is merely a displacement of the metal and none of its volume is lost. A simple polish will quickly bring the metal back to its original brilliance. You don’t need to worry; a scratch won’t make your love any less.

But of course, you would love to give her something lustrous and karat-possessing jewel. Mémoire has everything you have in mind. Precious metals and precious stones of whatever kind, just name it. If you don’t want Platinum, fine. You want gold? Fine.

Mémoire’s 18k gold is made up of 75% pure gold mixed with a metal alloy to give it sturdy and durable character. While we have different “color” of the gold, it’s the metal alloy that determines what color it will be.

18k gold mixed with copper produces 18k rose gold, the copper producing a warm pink color while 18k yellow gold is a rich warm yellow. If mixed with palladium or nickel, we will have white gold but Mémoire is always unique so what it gives is 18k white gold with an extremely hard metal to boost the whiteness of the surface called rhodium. Mémoire’s 18k gold is very sturdy and durable but since gold, among all the metals used in jewelry, has the most malleable property, gold can be shaped and bent into curves and twists. You can even make a design of your own with that same gold piece.

At the end of the day, it’s not really the material things that matter. It’s the thought that counts. I was kidding when I said that. If your thought really counts, why don’t you think of something big and lovely? What you think about matters because it’s usually what you give her. It matters so it is material. With all the thought, matter and love, honestly, give her a Mémoire.

Think of giving her a Mémoire today and visit us at Schiffman’s in Downtown Greensboro. We know exactly what you are looking for. Schiffman’s is an authorized dealer for Mémoire.

Roman cinematic art

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:00:00 AM in Richard Ginori (32)

The crisscrossing “pencil” sketch marks across the Richard Ginori plate is hard to ignore. They run liberally across the majolica plate, glazed and delicately handcrafted in the famous Richard Ginori tradition. It seems the pencil marks are let loose to create wanton circles in gray hues and their complementing negatives. This is the Diagono Sketch art, Richard Ginori at its Roman cinematic flair. The grayscale—no other colors are used—doesn’t limit the Diagono line; in fact, it elevates the design into classic art with borrowed touches of cubism, perhaps. It is Richard Ginori at its Italian panache. The Diagono Sketch comes in coffee cup set and salad bowl set.

Complex reduced to simple

There is an air of simplicity in a Reed & Barton Silversmiths five-piece place set, the rare talent that can reduce the complex processes of metal craft into a seamless, elegant piece. The curvature of a Reed & Barton Silversmiths spoon’s concave, for example, is subtle. The food slides smoothly on it and lips subconsciously crave to be kissed by the spoon’s generous rim. The knife gives off the right balance that allows you to cut into meat in surgical strokes. The fork is elegantly pointed to give you control when picking food. The Reed & Barton Silversmiths place sets come in a variety of designs; from Captiva set’s overlapping metal flaps that resemble a palm tree’s bark, to the ridged edge of the Berkshire-Matte set.

Home of the Gods

Posted by Schiffman's at 7:45:00 AM in Konstantino (42)

Cradle of the Western Civilization, Greece is strategically located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa and has land borders with Albania, the Republic of Macedonia, and Bulgaria to the north and Turkey to the northeast. With a population around 11 million, Greece is officially the Hellenic Republic in Southeast Europe.

It is the birthplace of democracy, Western philosophy, the Olympic Games, Western literature and historiography, political science, major scientific and mathematical principles, and Western drama, including both tragedy and comedy. Eighty percent of Greece consists of mountains, of which Mount Olympus is the highest.

In Greek mythology Olympus was regarded as the "home" of the Twelve Olympian gods of the ancient Greek world. It formed itself after the gods defeated the Titans in the Titan War, and soon the palace was inhabited by the gods. It is the setting of many Greek mythical stories.

Greece and its vast Greek culture fascinated people all over the world. It has inspired historical poets and artists with its beautiful architecture and art. It is a paradise of inspiration for writers and designers alike. One of these designers is Konstantino Sioulas. Enthralled with Greek history and the rich legacy of Greek gods and goddesses, Konstantino developed an endless fascination with the artisanship of the earliest Greek jewelry designs. For that reason, he made the house of Konstantino as the jewelry’s Mount Olympus.

Konstantino aims to capture every god’s character in every collection. Fascinated with warrior’s valor, Ares, thr god of war, bloodshed, and violence, the son of Zeus and Hera, was depicted as a beardless youth, either nude with a helmet and spear or sword, or as an armed warrior. While Homer portrays him as moody and unreliable, and he generally represents the chaos of war in contrast to Athena, a goddess of military strategy and skill, Konstantino interprets Ares through the Ares Collection, as strong and mysterious god, featuring bold armament fashioned of sterling silver links, intricately engraved coils, deep black onyx, and accents of black diamond.

His iconic trident symbolizes his kingly domination over the vast seas. God of the sea, rivers, floods, droughts, earthquakes, and the creator of horses; known as the "Earth Shaker". He is a son of Cronus and Rhea and brother to Zeus and Hades. He rules one of the three realms of the universe as king of the sea and the waters. In classical artwork, he was depicted as a mature man of sturdy build with an often luxuriant beard, and holding a trident. The horse and the dolphin are sacred to him. His wedding with Amphitrite is often presented as a triumphal procession.  The spear of Poseidon’s trident sent the deep blue waters crashing against the shimmering shores of Ancient Greece. The powerful Poseidon makes waves with the nautical motif of the Poseidon collection, wrought in precious metals from the depths of earth and lapis lazuli as rich as the ocean blue. The Poseidon Collection is one of Konstantino’s best.

No god can ever endure his wrath. King of the gods, the ruler of Mount Olympus and the god of the sky, weather, thunder, lightning, law, order, and fate, Zeus is the youngest son of Cronus and Rhea. He overthrew Cronus and gained the sovereignty of heaven for himself. In artwork, he was depicted as a regal, mature man with a sturdy figure and dark beard. His usual attributes are the royal scepter and the lightning bolt, and his sacred animals are the eagle and the bull.  Konstantino captures that might and power through knotted cable and cross motifs in his Zeus Collection; the King of all Gods, Zeus dominated the skies of Ancient Greece. As though forged of thunder, this sterling silver and 18k gold collection symbolizes his strength and masculinity.

Konstantino uses the ancient engraving and etching techniques found in early Greek jewelry. He wants people to look for the echoes of history in each piece and feel their timeless craftsmanship and enduring beauty that is truly Konstantino. A traditional art blend with his masterful interpretation of magnificent designs, a perfect balance and contrast of soft and strong elements all merged to create a Greek-inspired jewelry masterpiece.

Beyond any myth, Konstantino Sioulas is truly a remarkable gift from the heavens. Aside from the history, art and mythology, Konstantino is one of the greatest gifts Greece has given to the world and his pieces are what even Mount Olympus gods would love to wear.

The variation in tone and hue of the Oceana collection by Casafina is testament to the handmade process involved in creating the Casafina stoneware. The Oceana’s colors of blue and green earth tones seem fused into the ceramic itself, resulting in the Casafina trademark of depth in character and individual signature. It’s Time for Africa!

Posted by Schiffman's at 7:00:00 AM in Marco Bicego (46)

Extending to more than 30.2 million square kilometers and covering 6% of the Earth’s total surface, Africa is the second most populous and second largest continent. Boasting the world’s largest combination of density and of wild animal populations and diversity, the African territory is home to variety of jungle animals including snakes and primates and aquatic life which includes crocodiles and amphibians. African plains also pride having the largest population of carnivores including cheetahs, hyenas and lions and herbivores such as camels, elephants, buffalos and giraffes. Indisputably, Africa is the home of the wild and the cradle of biodiversity.

For all its immense area of savannas and safaris, Africa is a living paradise to the natives who inhabit the area. Africans so much love the very ground where they stand afoot as much as the Sun loves the golden dunes of the Sahara Dessert. Oh, Sahara, a world lost in time, a golden princess lying plainly under the Sun. Beyond space and time, it has stood through all the tests of the changing seasons. It has remained faithful to the scorching heat that made her alive through all time. Her soft and graceful dunes are the loveliness sure to take your breath away.

Marco Bicego has once lost to her loveliness and wanted to stay there forever. But with his Africa Collection, Marco will find his way back and make more wandering spirits lost to Sahara.

Marco Bicego’s Africa Collection is inspired by tribal jewelry and the soft dunes of Sahara, the Sahara Collection is an extravagant expression of golden boules of different sizes and finishes, all individually hand-engraved and textured. Small thoughtful details include making the clasp within this collection an integral part of the jewel itself.

The Naga Power

Posted by Schiffman's at 12:00:00 PM in John Hardy (39)

The dragon is probably the most universal of all mythical creatures.  In addition to Chinese dragons, there are nearly limitless tales of dragons in the whole world. In the orient, the Balinese believe in a mythological creature that symbolizes prosperity and good luck – which they call the Naga. In these legends, the Naga or the dragon is known as the lover of the pearl and must dive from his volcano-top home to sea to visit his love. Each morning when he returns, his path brings water through the rice fields. The water produces a bountiful rice harvest, supporting the Balinese farmer. This has come to symbolize strength, courage, fortitude, and an embodiment of primordial power.

Introduced in 2008 as the first figurative piece for John Hardy, the Naga collection brings to life the Balinese legend of the dragon. The collection includes meticulously handcrafted sterling silver and gold cuffs, earrings, bracelets, pendants and rings that are rich with precious and semi-precious gemstones all depicting the figurative dragon head or its scale motif.

The Essence of Being a Woman

Posted by Schiffman's at 7:35:00 AM in Judith Ripka Essentials (33)

There are so many roles a woman plays in her life. In prehistoric cultures, way back in gatherer-hunter societies, women used to be the gatherers of plant foods and small animal foods. In more civilized history, women in the middle class were involved in domestic tasks such as childcare while poorer women of the working class were compelled due to their economic necessity to seek employment outside their homes but unfortunately, employment available to them were lower in pay than those available to men. In some countries, women were considered as the inferior gender of the society thus not allowing them to have access to education and to participate in the political aspect of the society. But after so many years of waiting and enduring the discriminating treatment of the public, women had evolved dramatically while the world underwent to economic and political changes. In recent decades, movements advocate equality of opportunity for both sexes and equal rights regardless of gender. Through the economic changes and the efforts of feminist movements, women in most societies have access to higher education and careers beyond the traditional homemaker.

Today, women compete head to head with men when it comes to political, economic and academic fields. Whatever she may be, a lawyer, scientist, physicist, president or a simple mother, every woman plays an integral role in every society around the world. Without her, the very core of our human nature would not be complete, the human evolution and civilization would have had become a fiction. And to celebrate their existence, Judith Ripka has a way to express her gratitude to all women of the world.

Judith Ripka started her act of gratitude since 1977. For more than 30 years, Judith has been steadfast in combining classic designs and timeless styles with her modern interpretations in the jewelry industry. Born and raised in USA, she started accessorizing her clothing with whatever she found in her mom’s jewelry box. . Her mother had a strong sense of fashion and made her own classic couture clothing, but Judith was fascinated by her mom’s collection of antique jewelry. Since designing was part of her DNA, she knew in her heart and soul that she would be a jewelry designer. In 1977, Judith Ripka launched her first 18k gold collection and In 1982, she was honored with the prestigious DeBeers Award for  Outstanding Jewelry Design and the White House has informed her that the First Lady’s commemorative pin is slated to be permanently displayed in the future Clinton Library. In 2000, she launched her silver collection. Both her 18k gold and silver collections were widely accepted by jewelry fond wearers and collectors.

Judith Ripka and her company live by the mission that they should create jewelry of understated elegance for women of impeccable taste worldwide that is appropriate for all the roles that a woman plays in her life. Because of that, her jewelry should match with her wardrobe and suit any occasion. Judith strives to provide every woman the pieces that would represent her strength, wisdom and confidence; things that are essential to the female specie of the human race.

Like every designer, Judith Ripka also has her own jewelry signature elements. A Judith Ripka made jewelry is known to have a 360 degree design detail, exquisite pieces that are finished inside and out. With heart details, gallery backs and diamonds on pulse points, Judith Ripka uses special custom cut stones and rich texturing that define the collection and lobster claws that are worn in front. The company prides itself on using only the finest diamonds, precious and semi-precious gemstones, pearls, and unique one-of-a-kind stones. Judith’s attention to detail and unique vision truly make her line a must-have for women around the world. Her designs have gained a celebrity following, with many A-list savvy celebrities donning Judith’s collections on the red carpet such as Miley Cyrus, Kate Hudson, Vanessa Williams, Naomi Watts and Jessica Simpson.

While Judith is very inspired by women in creating her own masterpieces, she also inspires both men and women through her advocacies. Judith Ripka is devoted to inspiring others through her craft and has created commemorative pieces of jewelry for Autism Speaks, the United States Holocaust Museum, the Mother’s Voices AIDS Organization and the Long Island Philharmonic. Her most recent charity partnership with Dress for Success Worldwide has not only raised significant funds for the organization, but also generated tremendous awareness among the public.

Designing jewelry is like being a woman. It is not an easy task. It requires time, expertise and effort to do the job well. But unlike jewelry designing, being a woman is not about getting money in return for all the good things you’ve done. Being a woman simply needs having a compassionate heart. And Judith Ripka has best of both worlds; the expertise of a jewelry designer and the heart of a woman.

Turning back the hands of time

Posted by Schiffman's at 2:00:55 AM in Salisbury (32)

I don’t know if it’s just my age, but the pink floral art on the Salisbury tea cup hurls me back in time when life was simple. The Salisbury signature of fresh flowers hanging on their twigs with leaves strewn around the bloom reminds me of my suburban childhood home, a house built to withstand the strongest weather as she was put up to tenderly care for the three kids running wild inside with little care of the outside world. There is a melancholy that this Salisbury cup carries, one that I welcome on a tea break away from the pressure of the now. I half suspect that I developed a taste for tea just so I can use this Salisbury cup my wife gifted me on our anniversary. I can’t believe I’m developing a relationship with a tea cup.

Potter's magic

Posted by Schiffman's at 2:00:00 AM in Simon Pearce (32)

There is magic as the potter slowly brings to life a Simon Pearce ceramic out of a patch of earth. Working one piece at a time, the potter starts to mold the clay on the spinning wheel. He applies just the right pressure mastered from years of workmanship to shape a bowl and create a hollow that slides in like water flowing into its bottom. With patience and focus, the potter slowly creates the familiar Simon Pearce bowl with seamless curvature. The potter then puts a slight touch to create yet another Simon Pearce signature, the smooth ridges that run around its ceramic bowls, plates, chargers and servers. After some sweat, the raw Simon Pearce bowl is done and ready for the kiln and glaze. The potter moves on to the next patch of earth; perhaps, the one that will go to your dinner table. It’s a unique piece you can claim all your own.

The Waves of Life

Posted by Schiffman's at 12:00:00 PM in Hearts on Fire (32)

The ocean has always been part of human lives. From being the primordial factor in the creation of societies, it has also been the reason for some of its destruction. The ocean is the place of origin for all life and its waves represent life’s hard struggles. It is the place of creativity, fertility, and birth. It traditionally represents our great unconscious, memories, emotions, and individual soul and collective experiences.

With this subtle symbolism, Hearts On Fire designer Ilaria Lanzoni shows her passion for the ocean and the sea, and its constant movement reflected in the company’s “coming soon” Atlantico Collection. In the same way that the waves of the sea portray hope and future along life’s continuous journey, with their endless crests rising and falling, the bold colors and subtle, twisting lines of Atlantico also depict that movement of life. And the diamonds captured within these “waves” stand as the memories along life’s journey, memories that you never want to forget.

The Metal that flows like water

Posted by Schiffman's at 7:00:00 AM in Beatriz Ball Collection (31)

It is called the jewelry for the table. The Catena collection by Beatriz Ball is undoubtedly is. The Catena bowl reflects the Beatriz Ball’s trademark of age-old sand casting and polishing that uses premium alloy of molten aluminum. The Catena, as with many Beatriz items, goes through as many as twelve different hands to cast, mold and polish the item to create a depth of character and that inner glow. The result is nothing short of a jewelry piece that sits on your dinner set. The gleam of the Catena bowl seems to come from within the metal and the surface is seamless and the metal flows like water. The Catena collection by Beatriz Ball also includes salad servers and bowls in medium and mini specifications.

The Royal Cut in Clarity

Posted by Schiffman's at 6:00:00 AM in FireMark Diamonds (35)

Etymological data confirms that the word diamond is a Greek word which means "unbreakable" due to its dominant characteristic of hardness but ancient references of its ancient use points to India. Diamonds were used as decorations, ornaments and elements of trade. India was once the major producer of ancient diamonds until scarcity became a problem and Africa dominated diamond production in the 21st century. Its use are variant, however before the 21st century, diamonds are already famous because of its brilliant beauty and fiery nature in the play of lights.

Due to its extreme hardness, diamonds were used to sharpen some stones or cut some stones. Its multi-variant use creates an added value in the ancient era but its real value accelerates in the modern arena were value exceeds use! It is at this point that diamonds must be graded and classified according to their nature. According to the Gemological Institute of America, the factors of 4 Cs are being considered which stands for Carat, Color, Cut and Clarity in evaluating diamonds. In Antwerp, Belgium, the Diamond High Council certifies diamonds for quality. That’s why every diamond must have the stamp approval from Gemological institute of America and the Diamond High Council.

The famous use of diamonds as jewelry in engagement rings was made famous by the De Beers. It caught the fashion world and learned to appreciate the beauty and value of diamonds. Diamond industry had been in operation worldwide in great rampancy but according to Ernest Oppenheimer, who once owned the De Beers Company, stated that, "common sense tells us that the only way to increase the value of diamonds is to make them scarce, that is, to reduce production.”

Hence the value of diamonds at a global scale is being exaggerated by its scarcity although some of it is schematically simulated. However, beyond its scarcity, the true value of a diamond is its beauty, so mysteriously inherent in every diamond stone.

That’s why at De Beers Company, diamonds are polished and cut according to the prevailing world’s highest standard but what makes it distinct and eccentric is a cut  created by the De Beers Company. A typical diamond cut is a round cut at the top called the crown which retains 50 percent of its rough original stone while a FireMark Diamond at De Beers Company is an atypical square cut with a double crown called the Princess Cut! It is so distinct because it retains 90 percent its rough size but has a larger crown area which make it more brilliant and scintillating to the client.

What makes a diamond more valuable in relation to the 4 Cs is the Cut factor. At De Beers Company, the process of a cutting a princess cut is carefully calculated as to express brilliance and scintillating beauty to awe any client.

A FireMark Diamond is the only princess cut diamond that is above the par of excellence. A FireMark Diamond is a Forevermore Trade name of the De Beers Company.  A FireMark Diamond is carefully polished with every "chevron" carved in precision, every unpolished diamond are inspected meticulously for any inclusion. Inclusions are diamond terminologies in reference to generic and inherent imperfections in a diamond, this determines the clarity factor with which a diamond is valued.

A chevron is cut in a diamond, It determines the refraction of light coming from every chevron. In a FireMark Diamond which was conceived in a princess cut, the number of chevrons made above the crown of the diamond accentuates the brilliance emanating from it.  It reflects the constant effort exerted by the company to make every diamond of highest quality at a level beyond future.

A Forevermore production in a FireMark diamond imbues a royal class, an emergence of carat, color, clarity and cut. According to the Gemological Institute on America and the Gem Certification & Assurance Lab (GCAL), a leader in grading the light performance of diamonds, the FireMark princess cut diamond for the first time rivals the round cut diamond in brilliance as based on its excellent evaluative results. Its grades it as "Excellent" ratings from the GIA in both Polish and Symmetry  and “Excellent” grades for Light Performance from GCAL.

The De Beers Company, in their production line as FireMark Diamonds are distinguished for about 10% larger than a typical Princess Cut of the same carat weight. The Patent pending “Double Crown” additional facets and distinctive angles capture the diamond’s life like no other Princess diamond in the world. It has shallower depths which assure one that you don’t pay for weight you can't see. It has also smaller tables, exacting angles, even girdles and facets that are perfectly aligned which maximize the diamond's fire, brilliance and scintillation effects.

These fundamental attributes of a FireMark Diamond only produced by De Beers Company is a perfect jewelry gift for someone precious beyond royalty which only deserves the best and the beast of its brilliance.

In the Round

Posted by Schiffman's at 12:00:00 PM in Christopher Designs (37)

The Planets, the sun, most clock faces, wheels, seeds, eyeballs, coins, rings, cells, portals, fruit, egg – in one way or another are all round-shaped things. The circle or round shape symbolizes a lot of things. It represents centering, focus, unity, initiation, perfection – everything.

Much like the symbolism offered by a circle, Christopher Slowinski, who founded Christopher Designs in 1976, creates and finishes his exclusive designs with centering, focus, unity, initiation, perfection, everything. With his brand, Christopher Designs, he combines his classic jewelry training with modern technology to create exclusive designs that include his patented Crisscut stones, one of which is the Crisscut Round. Cut from AGS ideal "triple zero" diamonds, the Crisscut Round boasts 109 facets, which radiate unequaled brilliance. Although it appears round, the stone actually has 12 straight walls and 12 sides, each so flawlessly cut that a dozen arrow point perfectly to the stone's center. The diamond's edges break the light, creating the illusion of an exquisitely scalloped border.

An Ode to Fathers

Posted by Schiffman's at 12:00:00 PM in David Yurman (40)

Fathers are not perfect and so are our relationships with them – some we understand clearly at the time, others we may not appreciate until much later. Regardless, fatherhood must be celebrated, not just for it being a tough job, but because of its contribution to what we have all become. Father’s Day is as timely today as it was over 100 years ago, for it is a celebration of our fathers who worked hard and always provided for us, a remembrance of those who died for us, a cause, or our country. For many fathers though, the most rewarding part of being a father is feeling that your children love you, and the knowledge that each child is on a path to a successful future, no matter what age, coping well with the problems that life inevitably throws at us all.

And what better way to show this than through a David Yurman piece? Maybe a Thoroughbred Wrap Bracelet, Black Leather to show your love, and to reassure your dad that you’ve worked hard, reached a certain degree of success and that you’re proud of him and all he’s done for you. It’s not too sentimental, not too whimsical, but one that is felt through the heart of every dad.

The Jim O’Leary Prestige by Waterford Crystal, a magnificent, detailed glass art that is more than just a juice cocktail bowl. Jim O’Leary is Waterford Crystal’s master cutter and he has been behind many of the brand’s trademark handmade and intricately designed glass works. The Prestige is Waterford Crystal’s recognition to one of its masters, the true artists behind every Waterford Crystal item. The Prestige item is inspired by eighteenth-century Dublin architecture. It is a play of patterns moving around seemingly layers of sculpted glass. It is a true reflection of Jim O’Leary’s art and his fine workmanship.
