The Gift Like No Other

Posted by Schiffman's at 10:20:00 AM in Ne'Qwa (32)

Ne’Qwa is an ancient art from the Empire of China. Master artists who were well-trained especially for the craft of Ne’Qwa painted elaborate designs on the inside of glass bottles and snuff boxes. Many emperors and prominent art connoisseurs collected the intricate little pieces of Ne’Qwa Art. At present, only just a handful of Chinese artists know the old art of Ne’qwa. The Ne’Qwa Arts team are not Chinese, but are from different countries brought together in China for their love of the art. Their aim is to revive the precious craft of Ne’Qwa or reverse-painting at the same time give you more personalized and creative options for gift-giving. Each piece they create is handpainted by an artist following his own original design or adaptation from a famous artwork. They are perfect for event or corporate giveaways, too.

The Ginkgo tree thrives in almost every frenetic and polluted major city in the world, showing a remarkable capacity for survival. The enduring, ancient tree is a symbol of health, wellness, endurance and calm. For Michael Aram, it is also the story of us – ordinary people living ordinary lives, withstanding adversities, sometimes bending but never breaking. This is the inspiration behind Michael Aram’s new dinnerware collection. “(The Ginkgo) imparts a sense of calm to me,” says the famous designer. “And somehow I know that, like the ginkgo, I have the strength to persevere, no matter what life has in store."The Ginkgo collection includes beautiful silver-plated glass pieces and nickel items, hammered and bent to achieve a look of natural coarseness on the surface and sporting a Ginkgo leaf here and there for central pieces. The India-based, American metalware manufacturer creates the whole collection by hand, thanks to the many Michael Aram seasoned and talented artisans.

Mottahedeh and Porcelain Beauty

Posted by Schiffman's at 10:00:00 AM in Mottahedeh (32)

If there is one name that should know what beautiful porcelain pieces should be made of, it is Mottahedeh. The 85 year-old tableware manufacturer from New York is the recognized leader in terms of adaptations and reproductions of antique luxury porcelain. Mottahedeh has worked with fine china patterns and designs for historically relevant or artistically remarkable original pieces from all over the world. This means Mottahedeh works with different clay materials for its collections, from the blue-grey cast of Chinese wares to the bright white of Limoges porcelain, depending on the original design under reproduction. All of its finished works, however, have clear and blemish-free surfaces that slump beautifully in complex shapes, a feat so difficult to master that only a handful of pieces are produced every day. Mottahedeh is also famous for its generous amount of colors in each design. While the industry average is 4 to 8 per piece, Mottahedeh uses as much as 27 colors.

The Mother-in-law cometh

Posted by Schiffman's at 9:20:00 AM in Gien (34)

The man thinks of how to impress his in-laws, who are dropping by for dinner. The man knows the mother-in-law can be snooty, a bourgeois class that he has to impress with only the best cuisine. Surely he can cook; but is it enough to break the in-laws’ high standard of expectation? He tries French and opts for a five-course meal. His wife knows French is not his best cooking, but that doesn’t seem to bother him. He knows he just has to serve the food on a Gien dinnerware, especially a Gien Millefleurs, and his in-laws will be so involved appreciating this romantic design classic. The rich flower depiction, the explosion of colors, the detailed line and depth of shades…who has time to talk about the food?

Trained in the renowned Parisian art school, Boulle, Lucas brings to Couzon a graphic yet pure rendition of cutlery. The sharpness, the pointedness, the strength of a Couzon spoon, fork, knife… is a Lucas working his magic. Karine Borot, meantime, renders the Couzon pieces with a pleasurable sight and feel to them. Superior Brilliance of the Crisscut

Posted by Schiffman's at 12:00:00 PM in Christopher Designs (37)

Who can forget that day when your one true love knelt and opened a dainty box or that day when you said “I do” to each other? Avowals of love are always symbolized by a diamond ring.Since your moments are as precious as diamonds, your moments matter more than anything,  and too keep that moment forever, Christopher Designs is here to provide just what you need.
Christopher Designs diamond engagement and wedding rings are expertly crafted using the finest materials and technology available. Designer Christopher Slowinski has been awarded three U.S. patents for his groundbreaking work in setting and cutting diamonds. The amazing Crisscut Diamond is recognized for its superior brilliance and fire, giving Christopher Designs rings a distinct and beautiful appearance above all others.
Christopher Slowinski, the designer, founded Christopher Designs in 1976. Born in Poland, he trained under master jewelry craftsmen in his native country and in the United States. The original Crisscut was launched with the arrangement of the 77 crisscrossed facets which pushed the boundaries of how brilliant a diamond could possibly be. This facet arrangement was initially used for emerald shapes and later for the Crisscut Cushion. “I have always been intrigued with taking something established and making it even more beautiful,” explains Slowinski. “That’s why the technological side of jewelry making has always been as important as the aesthetic value of my collections.” While ‘designer diamonds’ have come and gone, the Brilliant Crisscut earned its trademark for remarkable engineering. This unique stone has 109 facets. Although it appears round, the Brilliant Crisscut actually has 12 straight walls and 12 sides, creating the illusion of an exquisitely scalloped border.
The Crisscut comes in four superb types, Crisscut Round, Crisscut Asscher, Crisscut Cushion and Crisscut Emerald.
Introduced in 2008, the Crisscut  Round features 109 facets, which emits unequaled brilliance. Although related to the popular 58-facet round brilliant diamond, it possesses a set of its own. Cut from AGS ideal "triple zero" diamonds, although it appears round, the stone actually has 12 straight walls and 12 sides, each so flawlessly cut that a dozen arrow point perfectly to the stone's center.
Named after its developer Joseph Asscher, the Asscher Cut diamond was introduced in the early 20th century. The Asscher cut succeeded in drawing the eye into the center of the stone creating the illusion of great depth through its step facet configuration. But an unfortunate side effect was a loss of brilliance due to light escaping out the bottom of the stone or light leakage. But through constant efforts and research, the application of its exclusive Crisscut facet configuration, Christopher Designs has developed a solution for maximizing the Asscher's illusion of depth without compromising brilliance and light.
The Old-Mine Cut or Cushion Cut was once the most popular cut of diamond but because there were no set proportions, it was very difficult to find two matching stones, causing the Cushion Cut's popularity to eventually pave way for Round Cut diamonds. But Christopher Designs never gave up discovering techniques to solve this concern. Through its undying persistence, Christopher Designs has developed a way to bring a formula to solve the problem and ablaze the Cushion's trademark fire. And by applying the Crisscut facet configuration, it has been able to provide the clientele with a innovative and exceptional stone possessing an unparalleled intensity and stunning luminosity.
Crisscut Emerald is the prime culprit why Christopher Designs enjoys its wide popularity for almost fifteen years because of Crisscut Diamond's remarkable scintillation and brilliance. Crisscut's unique facet configuration and arrangement is simply one of the most brilliant and unique ways to cut a diamond to maximize its aesthetic beauty and quality. The facets constantly bounce light off one another and give the Crisscut Diamond a life and depth of fire or light dispersion, scintillation and brilliance or white light making it superior than any other.
Today, he combines his classic jewelry training with modern technology to create exclusive designs that include his patented Crisscut stones. Like his diamond cuts, Christopher Slowinski is as brilliant as his end products. No wonder why Christopher Designs is a top choice when it comes to engagement and wedding rings and bands. Creating his marvelous pieces is always a serious job for Christopher. It is the result of his passion and love for art and jewelry designing and numerous years of constant research and discovery to provide unique and original ways of cutting diamonds making them priceless treasures.
Exuding light and brilliance with Christopher Designs is Schiffman’s! Make that moment last forever by getting your own Crisscut Diamonds available at Schiffman's at Friendly Center. Find your favorite Crisscuts only at Schiffman’s, where only authentic and original jewelry pieces are sold! Schiffman’s is an authorized dealer for Christopher Designs.

The Symbol of Bravery

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:55:00 AM in Slane (32)

There’s no greater symbol that best represents courage and bravery than the Maltese Cross – the very symbol worn as a military insignia by mighty knights from Malta as a badge to represent strength in their faith and their commitment. The eight points of the Maltese Cross are said to represent many things to a lot of people depending on their belief and orientation. One theory provides that the attributes of respect, holy devotion, compassion, bravery, honor, fearlessness, humanitarianism, and loyalty which coincides with the ancient Knights of Malta creed, are what the points represent. On the other hand, there are others who would say that they represent the eight beatitudes of traditional Christians. Regardless, the Maltese Cross has become synonymous with virtue, honor and bravery and is often worn by firefighters to represent their indomitable spirit and courage in aiding their fellow man.
With impeccable attention to detail and quality craftsmanship, a collection of Slane jewelries are devotedly inspired by the Maltese Cross to offer hand-cast, hand-assembled and hand-finished jewelry pieces that has the meaningful and inspirational symbol as their center-piece.

A Treasure Worthy of its Name

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:00:00 AM in Roberto Coin (43)

Each one of us have treasures we deeply care for, some, we value more than the others. For some, it is education – for it is thru it that they can attain a higher calling in life or a more comfortable living, whichever is your perspective. Others, it’s their loved-one, maybe because the person means the world to them, or they wouldn’t know what life would be without such person. For certain individuals, it’s their health and their very existence. Still, for a lot of us, our treasures are those little keepsakes that represent the heart and soul of a giver whom we dearly love or miss. Tiny treasures that may be of earthly possession but nevertheless would make one smile (for some, heaven-ward) every time one looks a t them, makes one think of the person who gave or made it, or just something of someone to keep.
If you are looking for tiny treasures with remembrance and love in mind, Roberto Coin offers just that with its Tiny Treasures collection – a collection of whimsical 18K gold and diamond pendants that would truly be a treasure worthy of its name.

The Symbolism Business

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:00:00 AM in Suna Bros (36)

Using both old world techniques and modern technology in their New York City workshop, Suna Bros. creates beautiful, heirloom quality diamond and colored stone jewelry in platinum and 18K gold, some of which are patterned from or inspired by Queen Anne’s Lace – a flower as pretty and as mesmerizing as a snowflake. Legend has it that Queen Anne, the wife of King James I, was challenged by her friends to create a lace as beautiful as a flower. While making the lace, she pricked her finger, and it’s said that the purple-red flower in the center of Queen Anne’s Lace represents a droplet of her blood. Consequently, in the language of flowers, Queen Anne’s Lace represents sanctuary and delicate femininity.
So the next time you are planning to cheer someone up or declare your fervent passion, consider the Queen Anne’s Lace Collection by the Suna Bros. and the symbolism that Queen Anne’s Lace emit to the beholder. For indeed, it’s more like an art, this symbolism business – one has to have passion before one can call it a gift.

To Wear Paradise

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:25:00 AM in Marco Bicego (46)

Depending on what would make you the happiest, paradise in any shape or form is something different for each and every person. Is it heaven for you? Is it a serene beach with white shores? A meadow with long grass blowing in the breeze? It can be a place in the mountains with a fresh mountain stream running past your house, or white snow-capped mountains, or running and gawking wild animals here and there, or a crystal blue lake where one can boat or fish, or an island where you can scuba dive, water ski, sun bathe, jet ski, swim and shop, or a home filled with love and family. Regardless, paradise, is what people view as their most tranquil place.
To those who have already been to Sardinia, life in Sardinia maybe the best a man can hope for: twenty-four thousand miles of forests, of countryside, of coasts surrounded by a miraculous sea – truly an epitome of what the good God may give us as paradise. Sardinia in fact is the Italian region with the largest coastal development, the sea is clear and practically preserved from every kind of pollution. You will be fascinated by the small coves that lie in wild corners of the crystalline seas, you will be astonished to see the wonders that nature, with patience over the centuries, has created in the spectacular caves that penetrate the heart of the island. Being a so ancient land, the erosion of wind and rain has made that Sardinia has no high mountains; nevertheless it is mostly mountainous, characterized by plateaus and group of hills. All in all, Sardinia is a charming paradise that have to discovered and talked about. This maybe is the reason why, of all the things one can think of as paradise, Marco Bicego, the famous Italian jeweler, decided that it is the beautiful Sardinia with its wonderful beaches, characterized by particular turquoise intense colors and very transparent water, should be called paradise. It is perhaps the belief that paradise is not simply given to us but something that we have to work on with pure love and passion, something that we have the responsibility to contribute to the its creation that Marco Bicego decided to create a perception of tranquil paradise in his jewelries -- because paradise does not happen without attention, awareness, concern, and lots of energy and love.
Marco Bicego's jewels are items of contemporary seduction: necklaces, bracelets, earrings and finger rings are fruit of old goldsmith techniques, the knowledge of craftsmen handed down from generation to generation. Since the launch of his eponymous jewelry line in 2000 Marco Bicego has redefined the phrase "everyday luxury" with sensuous, extraordinary beautiful jewelry. Marco Bicego began his artesian training under his father at the young age of 22. His creations are inspired by hand engraved beads and multi textured, unique stones. His designs encompass old world craftsmanship with the modern element of urban chic design. Marco Bicego earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings are handmade by Italian jewelry artisans, providing a unique, luxurious experience for the jewelry buyer. Today, the Marco Bicego brand is found in over 1000 of the finest jewelers around the world. Bicego’s global representation includes, but is not limited to cities such as New York, London, St. Tropez, Tokyo, and Moscow, and is driven by elegant and modern flagship stores in Verona, Budapest, Crete and Mykonos. In North America, the Marco Bicego brand has established a commanding presence with a robust business in luxury department stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale's, and Neiman Marcus, as well as distribution at fine independent jewelers throughout the US, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. Marco Bicego’s United States headquarters is based in San Francisco, California. The Marco Bicego success story will continue to be one of openness to the future with a respect for tradition that is invigorated with passion and imagination. Marco Bicego will continue to lead the fine jewelry industry with his unique positioning between precious jewelry and today’s luxury.
The intense colors of Sardinian beaches are the inspiration behind Paradise, a youthful and sensual collection combining drop-cut gems with hang-engraved gold. Created in 2005, Paradise was an instant success, and continues to dazzle even the newest Marco Bicego customer. Shimmering rose and white quartz compliment an infinitely delicate range of aqua blue and green semi-precious stones, in a feminine “mix” of golden chains and tiny hand-engraved gold beads. One of the items included in the collection is the Semi-Precious Stone and 18-Karat Gold Necklace which is a yellow gold/semi-precious stones necklace with multi semi-precious stones, 16” long with clasp closure. Marco Bicego Paradise pieces have always been the best in their class. Marco Bicego Paradise Necklace, 18" is no exception. It is an 18-karat yellow gold that uses mixed tourmalines, quartz, peridot, garnet, iolite, tanzanite, aquamarine and topaz with lobster clasp closure.

A Greek-Inspired Beauty

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:00:00 AM in Konstantino (44)

There is a palpable aura of strength to Konstatino’s jewelries. Inspired by the art, architecture, and mythology of ancient Greece, Konstantino jewelry is designed and handcrafted by master artisans in Athens. If only the Greek Civilization is as alive as it was centuries ago, they would have put an “approved” stamp along Konstantino’s line of jewelries. Surrounded by Greece's spectacular ancient architecture, and knowledgeable of Greek legends, Konstantino Sioulas, Konstantino’s founder, is keenly aware of his ripe inspirational palette. "My father taught me constantly about Greek philosophy, art, and history," he offers, "My village, Melitea, belonged to the warrior Achilles of Troy. Knowing this famous warrior had actually lived in my birthplace had a lifelong impact." The company Sioulas built believes in hard work, sweat and a classic style aura, the end result is a jewelry that can be worn by anyone, anywhere, with anything--banker to rocker, young to old. The Konstantino Treasures line of jewelry, apart from being hand made from Greece, is well known for its unique designs and unparalleled craftsmanship. Enthralled with Greek history and the rich legacy of Greek gods and goddesses, Konstantino developed an endless fascination with the artisanship of the earliest Greek jewelry designs – one of which is the Astritis Collection—a  graceful offering that diverts from the usual artisan homage to Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty.  In a world of mass-production, Konstantino's dedication to preserving culture over creating commodity has given each piece of Konstantino a history, a substance, and a soul.
Throughout time, artisans pays reverence  to the magnificent goddess, but Konstantino who has already made one, did not only devote itself to Aphrodite but also to a lifetime of creating modern expressions of ancient Greek jewelry. This time, Astritis is in the center of Konstantino’s new collection from Konstantino, appealing to our inner oracle with the allure of the Astritis collection. The guardian of secrets, Astritis, the snake beguiles mortals and gods, her presence a symbol of life’s many mysteries. . Fused into objects of beauty, this stunning collection uses sterling silver,18-kt gold, diamonds, and gemstones, precious stones, intaglios (images cut into stone) and ancient coins, creating timeless luxury and beauty. The collection is composed of Byzantine Empire-inspired pieces that are etched and engraved using the same ancient engraving and etching techniques found in early Greek jewelry. Meticulous attention to detail is found in the Byzantine etchings on the reverse sides of each piece. That is why Konstantino’s jewelry is different from any other. Konstantino’s designs are timeless and universal – they come from the core of civilization with the elements of the modern world.
For the woman who craves timeless beauty and effortless elegance, Konstantino’s Astritis collection is handcrafted with you in mind. With sophisticated designs that are rich in tradition, the collection offers a breathtaking sterling silver cuff etched matte crystal bracelet that measures approximately 1/1/8” wide, at the widest point, fitting up to and including a 71/4” wrist. The bracelet features six gorgeous, faceted, soft green amethyst (prasiolite) stones going all the way around the bracelet.  The detail work on the piece is absolutely exquisite and it looks stunning on for day or evening wear! Simply taking about it cannot possibly do the work of art justice.
The Astritis collection also includes items that are adorned beautifully with emeralds. Emeralds are associated with love, fidelity, inspiration, wisdom, harmony, growth, patience, peace and abundance. The color green of the emerald has always had an association with spring and rebirth. In fact, ancient Egyptians often buried mummies with an emerald hung from their neck in hopes of providing eternal youth. With this in mind, consider the Astritis green amethyst earrings, a clover pendant and cocktail ring that no doubt you’ll feel the timeless craftsmanship and enduring beauty when you wear it.
The Astritis collection, true to its name as the guardian of secrets, consequently, offers a cross pendant that features a secret compartment. And who would forget the classic mother-of-pearl, the gift of nature that possesses a mysterious and beckoning iridescence? Certainly, not Konstantino, in this collection. The Astritis collection includes a storied and faceted Mother-of-Pearl Dangle Earrings that conjure the romance of ancient Greece. It is a sterling silver with 18-karat yellow gold detail with post backs. The Mother-of Pearl Dangle Earrings certainly do reflect light from the ethereal heavens above. It reminds the wearer to “have faith” with a Greek orthodox inscription.
Sioulas also designs wristbands, coin pendant necklaces, dog tag necklaces, and cuff links for men. He approaches his men's jewelry collection as he does the women's: to inspire with symbols of strength like Adonis or Pegasus embossed in bronze and set against an antique silver background.
Indeed, Konstantino has become the definition of rich European jewelry, hand-crafted by master artisans utilizing elegant and dramatic engraving and filigree workmanship.  To see more of the epitome of Greek beauty and craftsmanship, visit Schiffman’s in Downtown Greensboro.

The Nature - Inspired Luxury

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:00:00 AM in John Hardy (41)

Great respect for nature. A philosophy we can rarely find in big enterprises and companies. Humans as we are, we care so much for what is modern and advanced, tending to forget to value and appreciate nature. We never realized that the most beautiful things in the world come in natural forms. John Hardy takes this challenge and created his jewelry inspired by nature. For him, nature is not expensive, it is priceless.
John Hardy jewelry is known for its designs in sterling silver and other precious and semi-precious gemstones and for using traditional Balinese jewelry-making techniques and patterns to create modern pieces.
It all started in 1975, John Hardy jewelry was established by Canadian designer and artist, John Hardy. He went to Bali in the mid-1970s and he was attracted to the island's jewelry-making traditions and ignited his interest. He began learning the techniques of the local artisans then developed his first pieces by applying new design concepts to traditional Balinese techniques.
In 1996, the John Hardy compound was built in Mumbal, Bali and is the company production center where the jewelry is created. It also serves as a living and gathering space with an organic farm and low impact buildings. In 1999, Guy Bedarida, a senior designer of haute joaillerie of the Place Vendôme, joined the company as Head Designer and expanded Hardy’s design concepts to include the use of classical European jewelry techniques and new motifs inspired by nature and ancient East Asian art styles and themes.
The time and efforts were paid off when a rare John Hardy’s breathtaking collection was completed: Cinta. Cinta means “love” and is the rarest collection of haute joaillerei. This includes the Singhasari Naga Majesty, a cuff of 18 karat gold featuring a Rubellite center stone framed by two Nagas set with pink Sapphires and Diamonds. The Naga is the cosmic dragon, bringer of love, prosperity and protection. Singhasari was a 13th century Hindu kingdom in Java. Rubellite was treasured by the last Dowager Empress of China, who was laid to rest on a pillow carved of this beautiful gemstone and the Sanjaya
Earrings of 18 karat gold featuring Citrines and orange Sapphires. The Citrine is said to promote positive energy, courage, and discipline. It is associated with the Sun and its ability to bring warmth and happiness. The Sanjaya dynasty ruled central Java from the 8th to the 10th centuries and built monumental Hindu temples.
The Cinta collection also includes Soka, Sighasari Tangi, Naga Harmony, Savu Sorcery, Storm Pelangi, Naga Wiram Wilis, Naga Tangi, Savu Water Lily, Savu Purple Orchid and many more.
Through the years, the company has observed its four core values: Authenticity, Transparency, Accountability and Diversity. Authenticity, to offer only original and authentic jewelry shaped with the finest materials possible to their loyal clientele. Transparency, to continue on their endeavor to be an environment friendly company without any hidden agenda jewelry line. Accountability, that they will be responsible for any consequence and answer for any misconduct of their employees and warrants all of their wearers of the quality and standards of its pieces and lastly, Diversity, that they will continue to provide wide selection of pieces where wearers and collectors can enjoy and choose from.
John Hardy’s good intentions towards nature has been rewarded that in 2007, John Hardy president and currently company CEO, Damien Dernoncourt with Head Designer and Creative Director, Bedarida, purchased the company from Hardy. That same year the company headquarters was moved to Hong Kong and a satellite office was opened in New York. In 2010, the company opened its first flagship store in Plaza Indonesia, Jakarta. In 2011, it opened its first men’s and lifestyle store at The Landmark, Hong Kong.
Since then, John Hardy’s legacy of environment friendly luxury has always been the commitment and driving force of the company.  John Hardy envisions itself to be recognized as a leading brand in luxury handmade jewelry and lifestyle accessories inspired by the essence of the earth; A green company with an endless journey of becoming greener every day.
The combination of nature, art, culture and tradition result to a John Hardy piece: exquisite, exotic and elegant. "John Hardy is a luxury brand of handmade designer jewelry that reflects a synergy of designer and artisan to create objects of beauty in an environment of respect for people and for the natural world," says Damien Dernoncourt, CEO for John Hardy. To own a John Hardy piece is to own the best of worlds.

Bejeweled Memory

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:00:00 AM in Mémoire (37)

Our memory is our brain’s filing system. It contains everything we have learnt. While memory is crucial for all of us, there is no time during which memory demands are greater than the school years. The school environment, however, is not often a "memory-friendly" one. Children are presented with new information all throughout the school day and given little opportunity to consolidate new information before more new information is presented to them. Just as the relationship between remembering and learning exists, there is also a relationship between remembering and understanding. If we understand something, we are often able to remember it better. Understanding enables us to know where to store the information in long-term memory, and effective storage is more likely to lead to effective retrieval. Basically, memory is really who we all are. Now, what happens if life is without memories? Without memory all we have in life is a constant stream of experience that we can't even make any sense of. We see a car, but because we have no memory of it, we have no idea what a car is, and if it’s coming towards us, we don't really know that because it just seems to be getting bigger. Everything we experience is filtered through the context of the past and without memory we cannot make sense of anything at all. We would have no identity. We would ask the same questions over and over because we would not be able to remember the answers to them. We would live forever in the present moment and have no recollection of our pasts, including people and experiences that are important to us, and no anticipation of the future.
Now that we’ve established the importance of memory, let’s ask ourselves another question: are jewelries important too? In the context of memories, jewelries appear to be so mundane and trivial that the tendency of most of us is to say, no, not at all. But we are supposed to think of these two concepts in two different perspectives. Jewelries in one way or another are also important. Everywhere you look, people are wearing a vast variety of jewelry - necklaces, bracelets, and earrings are just the beginning. Whether it is to mark achievements , imbue personal expression, or bought as a wise investment, there is no denying that some people may feel that such decorations are optional or unnecessary. The answer is that jewelry has always been an important part of human cultures, serving several purposes that are deeply significant to each of us. Let’s start by saying that women have always been the epitome of beauty and sensuality and it has been their love to beautify themselves. One can’t help but admit that women do possess this intrinsic taste for beauty and perfection which reflects only too well in their love for jewelry.
Now what’s the connection between memory and jewelry? The connection is Memoire. Memoire has been manufacturing diamond jewelry in the United States for more than 20 years. Its line is sold exclusively to the “Guild” end of the market and it is extremely selective in choosing Authorized Mémoire Retailers. So how does Memoire keep on holding memories? Of course by quality craftsmanship that have always been their keynotes to success, unparalleled craftsmanship that provides its customers with simply the highest level of quality and manufacturing available today. In fact, a Mémoire mounting is designed to last a lifetime. They make sure this happens by using the hot extrusion process, that is, before a mounting is cut, the chosen metal is pushed through a tube with enormous force and heat. This pressure eliminates porosity (air bubbles) from the metal. The result is a platinum or 18K gold mounting that is solid throughout, strong, hard and exceptionally durable. A standard cast mounting starts with liquid metal that is poured into a mold. As the metal cools and hardens, air can be trapped on the inside causing pits and porosity, which could weaken the finished product. Mémoire’s extruded mountings are laser cut for exactness directly from metal that has undergone the hot extrusion process, eliminating this problem. This process creates the strongest possible prongs to secure the diamonds and precious stones, and a more durable overall ring, designed to last a lifetime.
So how does Memoire keep all the memories going? All of Memoire’s diamonds and precious stones, regardless of their size, are individually examined and approved by a staff GIA Graduate Gemologist. Also, Mémoire is one of the few jewelry houses to offer in-house laser engraving. Mémoire’s machines are state of the art and result in a level of quality that is famous throughout the industry. The lasers inscribe messages, names, and dates, personalizing your jewelry with lasting sentiment.
If you want extraordinary jewelry that creates exceptional and lasting memories, come see the rest of Memoire’s durable and solid bands at Schiffman’s in Downtown Greensboro.

Nature Bliss

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:30:00 AM in Metalsmiths Sterling (34)

It is an understatement to say that the natural world is beautiful. In fact to say that it is an exciting and enchanting world is to say the least. It is filled with adventurous spots, scenic landscapes, mystic caves, colorful flora and fauna, splendid waterfalls, exotic -caves, snow -capped peaks, lofty mountain ranges, picturesque dense lush green forests, dazzling deserts, breathtaking seascapes, serene flowing rivers, captivating sandy beaches – all mesmerizes and provides one with awesome sights. Aesthetically nature pleases because when it flourishes, it is a sign of harmony and health. If nature is sick and dying, it's not so beautiful is it?  Nature, also, is so hard to grasp for the grasping for understanding and subsequent relaxation of mind is a state of bliss. Nature is beautiful because it empties our minds and leaves us for a short period of time with a clean slate. We can look at a natural beauty but never truly understand it. And the more you try to analyze the more there is to see. It's never-ending.
Although the best part of nature are those that cannot be re-created, still, we try. With increasing awareness of our surroundings, we have begun massively exploring how we can manipulate and adapt our surroundings to evolve around us, rather than slowly adapting to our environment. One world – natural and raw, inspiring another that is more artificial and intellectual to adapt its products, designs and lifestyle from its tricks and flawless evolutionary adaptations. We must remember that learning and appreciating the natural world around us, is the key to evolution. Who knows what doors can open to future breakthroughs and developments by keeping our eyes peeled to the simplest and smallest things that live around us? We share this world together, and detaching ourselves from ecological roots may only hold us back, because no matter how advanced our society and technology is, we can never forget our origins, and we will always need something green around us. Of course, the best idea is actually spending some time in the countryside, but it’s not always possible, so the only thing left is probably bringing some nature to your house instead. And with this in mind, even the basic inventions wouldn't have been possible if inventors, innovators, visionaries, and avant-gardists hadn't paid close attention to the way things work in nature, to the end goal of bringing nature into our homes. The most common things that we usually buy for beauty and nature-like replica sakes are jewelries. Of course, jewelry-makers also had made use of nature to inspire them to make exquisite and delicate pieces that we rely and gorge upon but only a few master such art, one of which that does is Metalsmiths Sterling
Metalsmiths Sterling pieces feature a landscape of different and unique gemstones and are exclusively designed and manufactured by the company. Featuring clean, modern lines and European flair, the jewelry line has something that will appeal to every woman. It is because Metalsmiths Sterling has but one goal – to offer people across the world high quality, hand crafted modern jewelry. Although Metalsmiths Sterling pieces feature a landscape of different and unique gemstones and are exclusively designed and manufactured by the company, every item is stamped with our hallmark of quality and purity. Today, Metalsmiths Sterling has 6 different collections, Signature Collection, Panos Konidas Collection, Marquise Collection, Ink Collection, and the Earth’s Wind and Fire Collection – all with 800 different independent pieces scaled for individual styles.
In particular, Metalsmiths Sterling’s the Earth’s Wind and Fire Collection derives its inspiration from the endless beauty of the natural environment. The artistry of the pieces comes from the evocative flow of form and tone found in the semiprecious stones that are the focus of each creation. The simple elegance of sterling silver frames each stone into a wearable piece of art. As each stone has a natural footprint, each piece will have its own variations and nuances, making every creation dramatically unique. This collection basically makes nature as its blue-print with the result being an awe-inspiring collection.
It’s no secret that Earth is one of the four basic elements along with Water, Air, and Fire, and with the rise of environmental laws and pro-environmental organization, people has become more and more entwined with the mystics of the earth.  And with the Earth’s Wind and Fire Collection by Metalsmiths Sterling, one can appreciate the beauty and glamour the earth has and can offer to us, its inhabitants, and what we will be losing as a whole if we keep on degrading and taking for granted the only home we have in this existence.

The Passionate Cut

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:00:00 AM in FireMark Diamonds (35)

There are a lot of things that make us passionate about something and a lot more things that allows us to determine if we have found our passion. From knowing that it brings us unbelievable amounts of joy to bringing us unbelievable amounts of heartache both for no apparent reason, days are too short and doing becomes primary, results secondary. But the thing about passion is that once you’ve found it, it’s actually a lot of hard work but at the same time you feel so completely ecstatic and so unbelievably afraid. All in all, the sign of a passionate person is happiness from within, quality that cannot be altered from the outside.
Just like people, the distinctive quality of diamonds can also be determined thru passion. Passion for perfection. With FireMark Diamonds, it’s always about the passionate princess cut that creates the perfect brilliance, fire, scintillation and beauty. The late Steve Jobs, in his now legendary address at Stanford University, told us: “Don’t settle.” So, choose the world’s most perfectly-cut princess diamond in the world. And you shouldn’t have it any other way.

Krypell Captivates Once More

Posted by Schiffman's at 12:55:00 PM in Charles Krypell (45)

Designer jewelry is a must have when it comes to high-end fashion. It is not only the jewelry that matters but also the designer who made it so it is important that we know the authenticity of the jewelry, names of the designers and their artistic qualifications and background. Since jewelry is a form of art and medium of expressing one’s self through the colors and brilliance of every piece, we have to look very closely to the design concept and details of pieces that we wear, like it is made for us. One designer who does this kind of jewelry is Charles Krypell. What Charles Krypell has is jewelry that captivates the senses and suits the spirit.
Born in 1954, Charles Krypell has been internationally hailed for his dedicated comprehension of fine jewelry. He is one of the most sought after designers of astute collectors and famous celebrities. Charles has a universal design that captures every soul and connects with everyone.
Before his name became synonymous to design and quality, Charles Krypell is a native New Yorker who realized that he wanted to be a jeweler while attending Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. As a sculptor, Krypell did not only work with jewelry, but with several art mediums. It was jewelry, however, that captured his artistic sensibilities. "there is a dimensional quality of texture and movement that captivated me," stated Krypell.
He is one of the few designers who has been able to synthesize the three dimensional quality of jewelry, Krypell's work demands viewer involvement. His jewelry twists, dives, turns, and curves while tantalizing one's senses in a panorama of exquisite gems.
It is not only his sculptural capabilities that he transfers to his designs but also his artistic philosophy. He is faithful in “evolution rather than revolution” of style. Krypell believes that it is not just owning a piece but owning an ensemble. Krypell is not interested in attracting customers plain and simple but in making and cultivating collectors. The pieces he created in the past relate to his pieces in the present making a linkage of time to every collection.  It is the art of mixing and matching of the wearer that creates her own statement of fashion.
To mix and match these pieces, Charles Krypell has an extensive list of collections to choose from, this includes Precious Pastels, Pastel, Sterling, Gold, Sweethearts and of course, the signature Krypell Baguette Collection.
The Precious Pastels Collection is the heart of Charles Krypell. Charles describes this collection as “very bright, beautiful and conventional.” He makes use of the best stones including pink, yellow, blue and white diamonds, in platinum and 18-karat gold. He styles Precious Pastels to the most discriminating collectors who wish to buy pieces and build a collection.
Rubellite, morganite, peridot, aquamarine and green tourmaline and other stones are used in Charles Krypell’s Pastel Collection. This collection caters to versatility, giving women the opportunity to purchase a piece and then become collectors by mixing and matching coordinating pieces. This “evolution rather than revolution” method works because Charles remains disciplined in his use of colored stones. One of the highlights of the Pastel Collection is the glamorous reversible pendant creating two different looks at the same time with the colors forward or backward, peridot and diamonds on one side and encrusted diamonds on the other.
Little Sweethearts on the other hand, is a collection of charms and pendants designed to commemorate the birth of children, or grandchildren. His Brilliance Collection features brilliantly cut diamonds and colored gemstones. It is designed in 18 karat yellow or white gold with diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds or pink sapphires. This combination of gemstone colors can be chosen to represent the gender of a child or a particular person (Pink for a daughter, Blue for a son or Diamonds for Mom) and worn as a pendant or bracelet.
Sterling by Krypell is a collection featuring dimensionality and perfect balance. The Sterling collection caters to a wider market of clientele who desires to purchase a Charles Krypell piece at lower and more affordable price. Charles believes that Sterling by Krypell could become one of the most important collections to come out in the last 25 years. With jewelry designs to last a lifetime, Charles Krypell envisions Sterling by Krypell to become a mainstream in fashion.
For love of the craft and art, Charles Krypell only uses the best in gemstones and diamonds in his creations. Furthermore, all Krypell pieces have the Krypell name stamped on the piece. Those who imitate Krypell's style are not stamped with the Krypell name and the quality of gemstones and diamonds are sub-standard of those in authentic Krypell pieces.
To be sure of the authenticity of your Charles Krypell’s pieces, purchase them only from Schiffman’s. You can try them on at Schiffman’s at Friendly Center! Schiffman’s is a certified and an authorized dealer for Charles Krypell.

Dry Under Water

A water-resistant watch can be important to those who need to know the time even though they are under water. At Ball Watch Company, water resistance is tested by immersing the watch completely in distilled water containing a wetting agent of 1% by weight and under the prescribed atmospheric pressure for at least 5 minutes. To be qualified, the watch must not show any evidence of leakage. Different types of water resistant watches can be used for different water activities. Consequently, the water resistance of Ball Watches ranges by collection. The Trainmaster and Conductor collections begin at 30 meters. The Engineer and Fireman collections are 100m. The Engineer Master collection ranges from 100m to 300m. And finally, the Engineer Hydrocarbon collection begins at 300m and goes up to 3,000m for the Engineer Hydrocarbon DeepQUEST.
So, whether you are to go scuba-diving, deep-water diving or just swimming, there’s a watch made for you at Ball Watch Company – the company focused on building the mightiest, superior watches that endure all adverse conditions. Come see it at Schiffman’s at Friendly Center.

All New (and Old) Spring Beauties

Posted by Schiffman's at 1:19:44 PM in Judith Ripka Essentials (33)

The Fall 2013 collections is now history with the transition from chilly to warmer temps. Everyone is now ready to embrace a hot new hue, and start thinking about getting prepped for Spring – not just for clothes but jewelries too! Although the Spring trend is leaning more and more to basic, like black and white, you can never go wrong with pairing it with a little bit of color. The best part about blacks and neutrals is that they provide a blank canvas, and the sky is the limit with how you can mix and match and express your own personal style through your accessories.  But with that in mind, finding the right accessory is a little bit tricky – but finding the right jewelry designer is a cinch.
Judith Ripka, a New York-based designer started designing 18k gold over 30 years ago and launched her silver collection in 2000. She has amassed a great deal of versatile collections focused and designed to sell multiple pieces outfitting black tie to blue jean and everything in between. She is best known for her sterling silver with full cut I/J-SI2 diamonds or white sapphires, semi-precious gemstones, and many pieces accented with 18k celadon gold, sterling silver with full cut, special 18k celadon gold alloy complimenting all skin tones, a 360-degree design detail (pieces finished inside and out), heart details with gallery backs and diamonds on pulse points, and special custom cut stones with rich texturing and lobster claws. Today, she creates timeless, classic jewelry with a special, modern twist perfect for the Spring fashionista in you, and of course for you in any other season.
What is Spring without new beginnings and with it, new designs?  As with few designers out there, Judith Ripka has innovative and original ideas to keep her competitors on their toes and her avid customers blissful and exultant. Judith Ripka starts the season by expanding her watch category even more. She has always been a provider of the finest and deluxe watches that are not just time-pieces, but pieces of excellent jewelries. All her watches feature warranties and long life batteries, water-resistance, durability and stainless steel. She has a new Pearlized Silicone and Stainless Steel Chronograph that has pearlized strap giving a great new lustrous look and twist (in three colors including emerald green, silver, and white) on her much-loved silicone watch. Judith Ripka also started elevating further the brilliance and look of her 100-facet round Diamonique. Although before, the stones already sparkled like no other simulated diamond out there, she still aimed for more sparkle and more brilliance, not in a single piece of jewelry but rather in a collection. The most notable piece is the classic diamond stud (J268391), which the brand offers in either a 2-carat size or 5-carat size.  The offering has also expanded beyond silver and is now available in 14K clad, both gold-tone and rose.
There may be a lot new to Judith Ripka’s collection but Spring is not just about new things, Spring is alos about trend and fashion. Leather or the look of leather is not one you would miss in the Spring Collection of 2013, and also not one you wouldn’t see in one of Judith Ripka’s collection of amazing blings. One of Judith Ripka’s staple is the Braided Necklace with Heart Charm and as Spring heralds on, the brand will be debuting a new version of this style in 14K gold-tone and rose-tone. Spring is not Spring without the blooming beautiful flowers everywhere. The Smithsonian Sterling Diamonique and Gemstone Flower Ring and Earring allows the wearer to wear the beauty of Spring with simple floral silhouette that speaks to Spring in a sweet, soft shade of pink.  Not too candy pink and not to pale, it’s just perfect.
They say that in order to move forward, one must not forget the past. The old keep us grounded and so does Spring and these pieces from Judith Ripka: Fontaine Purple Single Heart Charm Bracelet, the Tennis Bracelet, and the Sterling or 14K Clad Braided Double Row Bracelet. Raise your own focused fashion through the Fontaine Purple Single Heart Charm Bracelet, having an opulent link pendant that gives some sort of warm vibe to everyday negativities. With the tennis bracelet, playing has never been more beautiful. The bracelet contains a lot of silver with stones that are so bring they bring along an amount of sparkle. The two bracelets embody both the elegance and edge of New York City. But the last one combines classic, sophisticated sterling with the braided look of leather. It strikes the perfect balance between uptown’s fashion flair and downtown’s street chic, the old and the new.
If you wish to see more of the old and the new, come see Judith Ripka Essentials at Schiffman’s in Downtown Greensboro.
