In offices, corporations and boardrooms around the world, much time is spent analyzing profit, income, and projection statements. But there are companies that discuss all of that and making sure there is also time to give back.
We are proud of all of the brand we work with but below are three of our favorites committed to make giving just as important as receiving.
This brand has made the pledge to leave the world better than they found it. Bali’s bamboo forests have been a source of inspiration for the company’s jewelry designs since its inception, and is the reason for Hardy’s commitment to the environment.
The dense forests of Bali are a profound resource for the country, and their conservation has been the mission of John Hardy's since 2007. The “Wear Bamboo, Plant Bamboo” program sows a new seedling for every $200 sold from the Bamboo collection. This effort helps clean air and water in the forests, while providing local families with seedlings and training in sustainable cultivation and preservation.
Last year, John Hardy celebrated the planting of their 1,000,000th seedling with CEO Robert Hanson proclaiming “from the materials used in our pieces to the construction and operation of our workshop in Bali, sustainability is woven into every aspect of our brand.” Each piece in the collection is engraved with the number of seedlings planted from the purchase of it. It’s a great contribution to the environment by an excellent company.
Some give and tell the world, others give quietly, and you may never know of their generosity. While both result in getting needed aid to a charitable organization, we are always fascinated by those who give… and ask for no applause. Steven Lagos, LAGOS, has spent 18 years giving to Keep Memory Alive. Keep Memory Alive is a nonprofit organization committed to raising awareness and funds to support research, management, and treatment of memory disorders.

With few taking notice, LAGOS has raised and subsidized nearly $1 million for the organization. Steven Lagos feels that as the Baby Boomer generation continues to live longer, the impact of diseases such as Alzheimer’s is fated to get worse unless significant discoveries are made. Like so many, Lagos has seen the destructive impact of Alzheimer’s in his own family. “It’s a disease that affects everybody. The whole family gets involved and it’s kind of debilitating for everybody,” Lagos said. “It’s really become an epidemic.”

For years, Hearts on Fire has focused its donations to The American Heart Association, St. Jude’s Research Hospital and the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Like so many local brands, Hearts on Fire also supports the Boston community they call home. Since 1995, Susan and Glenn Rothman have served as consecutive chairs and establishing members of The Lenny Zakim Fund, or LZF.

LZF gives assistance to 60 grassroots community based organizations that are often unnoticed by larger funds. Each year, LZF grants recipients financial support, management assistance, education and training.
This support invigorates the organizations and means they can do even better community work. The Rothmans' use their business knowledge with the talents of the entire Hearts on Fire team to help these novice groups to improve their marketing, management, finance, and sales skills.
